Chapter 1

Samantha McCall was happy with her life. She had a great job, with the possibility of climbing up the ladder in the near future, and she was making great money. She worked on the background of the local talk show, and she loved the work she did. She got to interact with the celebrities that came on the show, and she got to see it before it aired.

The only thing she missed was her own home. She still lived with her sister, because after she came to Port Charles, she never got the chance to search for something she liked. Port Charles wasn’t that big, and all the places she liked – she had seen – were to expensive at the time.

‘’Geez Sam, can you look at me when I’m talking to you?’’ she heard her sister, Robin, say, and she shook her head to clear it. She looked at her sister, who was a little older than she was, and already married with a daughter. ‘’You didn’t even hear me, did you? This is what I’m talking about – you always zone out when I talk to you,’’ Robin rambled, and Sam smiled.

‘’I’m sorry, sis, I was just thinking about how much I appreciate having you as a sister,’’ she lied smoothly, and Robin blushed. Sam loved her sister, but sometimes she was just too much, and she really did need her own apartment. ‘’And I was thinking of looking for something of my own soon,’’ she added, and Robin nodded.

‘’It’s too much, being here with Patrick and Emma – I know, and I’m sorry,’’ she said softly, and Sam shook her head. That was not what she meant at all.

‘’No, no – Robin, I love spending time with my niece and brother in law, and with you, but sometimes I have the feeling I’m just too much in here,’’ she told Robin, who nodded, but didn’t seem to believe her. ‘’Listen, I need to get to work, but I’ll see you later, ok?’’ Sam said, and Robin nodded again. Sam pushed her chair from the table and kissed Robin on her cheek, and after that she left the house.

‘’Sam, you forgot your purse,’’ she heard Robin yell behind her, and she turned around and smiled at Robin as she ran to her with her purse. It wasn’t that important, but Robin thought it was and Sam didn’t think to tell her otherwise.

‘’Thanks, sis. I’ll see you tonight,’’ she muttered, and she walked to her car. As she stepped in she started planning her day – the Boss had asked for her to come in his office early in the morning, and she had to help the celeb of the day. She didn’t know who it was, but she was excited. She started her car and made her way to the studios.

As Sam walked into the studio she saw all the commotion and smiled. She looked around to see if she could find Darius, her friend and coworker, and when she saw him she made her way over to him. ‘’Hey Darius, have you seen Mr. Young?’’ she asked him, and he turned around and sighed at her.

‘’Good morning to you too, Samantha,’’ he said, and he smiled at her before saying, ‘’he isn’t in yet.’’ Sam sighed, because she was anxious to get the meeting over with. She didn’t know what it was about but she wanted to know, and she wanted it to be the first thing she did today.

‘’Thank you – and good morning. Did you have coffee yet?’’ she asked, looking around, but she didn’t see any. He sighed again and rolled his eyes, but then he nodded.

‘’Yeah, but I don’t have it here – I brought it over to the cut-room,’’ he said, and she nodded and started moving toward the room, but he stopped her. ‘’Wait just a second. What did you need Mr. Young for?’’ he asked, and she sighed.

‘’He demanded a meeting, and I wanted to get it over with,’’ she told him, and he widened his eyes. ‘’What? What are you thinking?’’ she asked him when she saw, now getting nervous.

‘’Nothing,’’ he said shaking his head, and she sighed. ‘’Ok, ok – what about we drink some coffee before talking about it,’’ he added when he saw the look on her face, and she smiled and nodded. She would get it out of him somehow.

Jason Morgan woke up and moaned when he felt his head was about to burst. He cursed himself for drinking too much again, but he smiled when he realized what the reason had been. He’d found a job, and he’d wanted to celebrate with his buddies. So he did – he had invited Sonny, Lucky and Nickolas for a night out, even though it was Thursday. He rolled over and stepped out of the bed, and took a couple of deep breaths when he felt nauseas.

‘’Why did I have to drink so much?’’ he asked himself, and he groaned when even his own voice sounded loud in his ears. He stumbled to the bathroom to take a shower, and he sighed when the warm water hit his body. It felt good, and he knew he had to get through the day on this shower. As he stepped out he heard a knock on the door, and he didn’t even bother getting dressed. He wrapped a towel around his waist and made his way downstairs, when there was another knock. ‘’Yeah, yeah, I’m coming,’’ he muttered, and he opened the door. Sonny, Lucky and Nickolas were standing there with huge grins on their faces, and he grinned at them. He didn’t feel good, but he felt good enough to have his friends over.

‘’Hey, Jase – how’s the head?’’ Lucky asked, and Jason closed his eyes and tried to block his voice, but it didn’t work. He glared at Lucky when his headache subsided, but the man only laughed harder.

‘’It’s not funny man, why didn’t you stop me?’’ he asked his best friend, and now both Sonny and Nickolas started laughing too. He sighed and opened the door further. ‘’I’m going to get dressed.’’

‘’You do that, I’ll make you something for that hangover,’’ Sonny said with a smile, and Jason grumbled something none of them could hear. Jason made his way up and got dressed, and when he got down, he saw Sonny sitting in the living room with a glass of green goo in his hand. Jason frowned at it, and Sonny smiled. ‘’It’s going to help you get rid of the headache and nausea,’’ he told Jason, and he nodded. Sonny got up and handed Jason the glass, and Jason smelled it.

‘’Aw, this stinks,’’ he said, but when Sonny didn’t say anything he drank some of it. ‘’Gross,’’ he exclaimed, but he took another long drink. Then he sat the glass down on the table and sat down on the couch.

‘’It’ll make you feel better soon,’’ Sonny said, and Jason nodded. He did feel better already, and he looked at Sonny with a grin.

‘’You went home with someone didn’t you?’’ he asked, seeing the look on Sonny’s face. Sonny just shrugged and smiled, showing his dimples, and Jason just knew he did. He went home with the blonde Jason had seen him with, and he just loved it when Sonny did that. That meant that they didn’t have to listen to Sonny complain for some time.

‘’She invited me, I couldn’t say no,’’ Sonny said, and Jason laughed. ‘’Hey, cut it out,’’ Sonny said, and hit Jason in the shoulder. Jason grunted and laughed again.

‘’Hey, it’s all good. What about tonight, huh? You want to go out again tonight? Because I think I’m going to score tonight!’’ Jason said, and Sonny shrugged.

‘’Sure, lets get Lucky and Nick,’’ he said, and Jason nodded. Sonny got up, and Jason followed his lead. They walked into the kitchen where Nick was making breakfast and Lucky was sitting on the kitchen table. ‘’Boys, we’re going out tonight,’’ Sonny said, and Nick and Lucky smiled and nodded. They were going out – again.

After her coffee with Darius, Sam made her way to Mr. Young’s office. She knew he had to be there by now, and she wanted to talk to him right away. She knocked on the door, and opened it when Mr. Young yelled at her to come in. She rolled her eyes when he didn’t look up, and waited.

‘’Samantha,’’ he said after a while, and she stood straight again, when he said, ‘’sit down.’’ She did, and waited, but he didn’t say anything.

‘’You wanted to talk to me?’’ she asked, and he frowned, but then nodded and smiled.

‘’Yes, Samantha. You seem to be doing really great, and I think we need to step it up a little,’’ he said, and she nodded. ‘’I’m putting you on the screen – interviews,’’ he told her, and she widened her eyes.

‘’You mean-‘’

‘’Yes, you’re getting the promotion, and you need to make sure you do it like you work right now because we can’t afford mistakes,’’ he snapped, and then he shook his head and sighed, ‘’I mean, I wouldn’t want to put my faith in you and then have it turned out to be a mistake,’’ he said gentler, and Sam nodded, still a little shell-shocked.

‘’I won’t disappoint you, sir!’’ she exclaimed, and waited for him to say something else.

‘’You can go now,’’ he said, and he looked down at his work again. She nodded and got up, slowly walked out of the office and screamed. She was so happy to finally have the promotion!

Sam made her way inside the house and called for Robin. ‘’Robin come out – I have something to tell you,’’ she yelled, and Robin ran out of the bedroom and shushed Sam.

‘’Calm down – Emma is asleep!’’ she whispered harshly, and Sam nodded and looked at her sister apologetic. Robin grabbed her hand and led her to the living room, and pushed her down on the couch. ‘’Now you can tell me,’’ she said, and Sam smiled brightly and jumped up again.

‘’I got the promotion!’’ she exclaimed, and Robin widened her eyes and then jumped.

‘’Oh my god, congratulations! We have to celebrate!’’ she said, and Sam nodded and smiled again. ‘’Come on – Patrick is home so he can watch Emma, and we’ll get ready for a night out,’’ Robin added, and Sam nodded and followed her sister. She stopped when Robin went into the bathroom, and turned around to her own room. She turned on the shower, glad she didn’t have to share a bathroom with Patrick and Robin, and threw off her clothes. She heard her door open, and then she heard Robin call out to her.

‘’I’m in the shower, Robin,’’ she yelled back, and then the bathroom door opened. Sam stood in her bra and panties in front of her sister.

‘’Patrick doesn’t mind watching Emma for the night so it’s just you and me,’’ she said, and Sam nodded and waited for Robin to leave. When she didn’t, Sam started pushing her out.

‘’See you in a minute, I’m going to take a shower,’’ she said, just before closing the door in her sister’s face. She stepped under the hot stream of water and relaxed, excited about tonight.

Jason walked into the club as if it was his own, and it might as well have been. He spent a lot of time here, and he loved it here. The club, The Cellar, was in the basement of the diner in town, and if he wasn’t at the club, he was at the diner.

‘’Jason!’’ he heard his name being screamed above the music, and he looked around and saw Lucky walking up behind him. ‘’You said tonight’s the night, right?’’ he said, and when Jason nodded, he continued, ‘’well, let’s make a deal – a bet.’’

‘’What kind of bet?’’ Jason asked, and Lucky grinned.

‘’You’re going to get her,’’ he said pointing at a petite brunette at the bar, ‘’to go with you,’’ he added, and Jason rolled his eyes. It would be easy!

‘’Sure – I can do that,’’ he said and he grinned at Lucky. Lucky sighed and rolled his eyes, and Jason frowned. ‘’What?’’

‘’She’s hard, man. She’s tough and she said no to all of us,’’ Lucky said, and Jason laughed. He shook hands with Lucky to seal the deal, and then walked over to the bar. He stood behind her and watched her for a moment, realizing the bartender didn’t even see her wave around.

‘’You need any help?’’ he asked above the music, and she turned around. She looked up at him and widened her eyes for a second before nodding. ‘’What do you need?’’ he asked her, and she opened her mouth to say something when someone bumped into her. she stumbled forward and Jason caught her.

‘’I’m sorry,’’ she said, and then she turned around, ‘’asshole!’’ she screamed at the man next to her, who just grinned and walked away with his beers. ‘’I’d like to have a beer please,’’ she said to Jason, and Jason smiled and ordered two beers. One for him and one for her. The bartender nodded and came to him with two beers, and the woman rolled her eyes.

‘’Here you go,’’ he said, and she took the beer. Then she closed her eyes and cursed. ‘’What it is?’’ he asked her, and she shook her head.

‘’Now I don’t have a drink for my sister!’’ she exclaimed, and he looked around to see where she was looking at, to see her sister standing at a table alone. He looked back at the woman, saw she had turned around again and stood waving to the bartender, who still didn’t see her.

‘’Here,’’ he said after a while, and he handed her his beer. ‘’You can have it,’’ he said, and he waved at the bartender again, gesturing for another beer. ‘’I’m bigger, he sees me,’’ he said with a wink, and the woman nodded.

‘’Thank you!’’ she said, and she looked up at him. She had the most beautiful brown eyes, and he wanted to keep her with him, but he couldn’t hold her from going to her sister.

‘’I’m Jason, by the way,’’ he said, and he held out his hand. She took it, and smiled at him.

‘’Sam,’’ she said, and then she turned around and walked away. He watched her made her way to her sister and smiled. He was going to get her to come home with him tonight.

Sam saw the man walk her way – Jason. He was hot, and nice, and she couldn’t stop looking at him. Robin noticed and smiled, but Sam didn’t see it. Jason made her way to her and stopped in front of her. ‘’Hey, you like to dance?’’ he asked her, and she looked at Robin.

‘’Sure,’’ she said when Robin nodded. Sam set her beer on the table and took his extended hand, and he took her to the dance floor. When he took her in his arms she melted, and she didn’t want to move. She looked up at him and he started moving to the music, taking her with him. They spend all night together, talking and drinking and dancing, and she loved it. He kissed her suddenly, but she liked it, and she responded by pressing her body against his. She moaned, and she felt him smile against her mouth.

‘’Come on,’’ he said in her ear, and he took her hand and led her out of the club. She looked at him and smiled, and he grinned at her. ‘’Let’s go to my place,’’ he said, and there was a question in his voice. She nodded, and he took her hand again and pulled her with him. He didn’t live far from the club and he had walked there, so he led her to his penthouse and stepped in the elevator behind her. He pushed her up against the wall of the elevator and kissed her roughly, his hands struggling to open the buttons of her shirt.

‘’Slow down, we have all night,’’ Sam whispered, and he nodded, but he kissed her again. His mouth went to her neck where he sucked until he made a hickey, and she moaned in pleasure. The elevator stopped and the doors opened, and without breaking the kiss, without stopping to touch, Jason made his way to his penthouse. He opened the door and kicked it closed behind him, and then he lifted Sam in his arms and carried her up the stairs.

‘’You taste so good,’’ he moaned in her ear, and she laughed softly. ‘’God, I can’t wait,’’ he said and he laid her down on the bed and pulled down her jeans. Then he moved to his, and she threw her shirt on the ground.

‘’I can’t wait either,’’ she whispered, and she took his boxers and pulled it off. He laid down on top of her, and then he jumped off, looking around.

‘’Condom, condom where are you,’’ he whispered to himself, and she sighed harshly.

‘’Just do it already!’’ she exclaimed, and he nodded and climbed on top of her. He slid inside of her and moaned, and he heard her moan also. She felt so good, and he looked at her, as he started moving. ‘’Yeah,’’ she whispered, ‘’like that,’’ she added, and then she screamed, as she reached her climax. It had been too long for her, and she couldn’t hold it in anymore. He followed her soon after, collapsing on top of her. He turned around and pulled her in his arms, and when he looked down at her he saw she was already sleeping. He smiled and closed his eyes, falling asleep soon after.

Sam woke up and frowned. She looked around the room she didn’t recognize, and then she looked at the man beside her. Jason, she remembered him. But how did she end up in the bed with him? She widened her eyes, as she remembered him leading her out of the club.

‘’Morning,’’ she heard him say, and she looked at his face again. He was awake, and she smiled weakly at him.

‘’Good morning,’’ she replied, and he grinned at her. She frowned at him, and he sat up and kissed her slowly. She was surprised she responded, but she did. He broke the kiss after some time and grinned at her again.

‘’Coffee?’’ he asked, and she nodded eagerly. She needed a whole pot of coffee – her head was pounding and she felt like a truck had hit her.

‘’Yes, please,’’ she said softly, and he got out just as she was, and threw on some clothes.

‘’I don’t know what you want to do but I don’t have anything in the house so lets go to Kelly’s,’’ he said, and she nodded. She looked at him and frowned when he made his way down. Was he going out like that? Then he turned around and moved to the bathroom, and looked at her. ‘’I have another bathroom in the guestroom but if you want to take a shower with me…’’ his voice trailed off, and she shook her head. She was glad he was going to take a shower, because she sure wasn’t going to sit with him if he didn’t.

‘’I’ll take the guest bathroom,’’ she said, and he nodded with that grin of his, and closed the door behind him. She made her way to the guest bathroom and searched for towels. He didn’t show her where they were, and she didn’t even see soap. She cursed, not liking this man already, as she finally found the towel and soap she needed, and she stepped under the hot stream. She felt better instantly, and she washed quickly. She wanted to get this morning over with already.

Jason didn’t like her. She looked at him like he was a mistake, like he was a loser. He didn’t like her. He watched her, as she drank her coffee and looked around the diner. She hadn’t ordered any food, but he didn’t care. He wanted this morning over with. When he had woken up this morning he had felt good, because she seemed nice. But after talking to her – or not talking, because she didn’t say much at all – he decided he didn’t like her.

‘’Well, I have to go. I – I loved last night,’’ he said, stuttering the last part. He really did have fun last night. She looked at him with a weak smile as he threw some money on the table and stood. ‘’Maybe I’ll see you around – maybe I won’t,’’ he said, and she nodded.

‘’I had fun last night,’’ she said softly, and he could see it was hard for her to say. He nodded, irritated by her behavior, and turned around to walk away without goodbye.

Sam looked at him as he walked away, and sighed. She hoped she could forget this day – and last night – ever happened.

Chapter 2

8 weeks later

Sam made her way to the cut-room after a whole day of work. It had been exhausting – she’d had someone on the show who’d been very demanding and wanted her to make the runs for his coffee. He wanted her to get him his food, and when it wasn’t good enough, she had to go out and get it. Never in her entire life had she been this exhausted, and she knew it wasn’t just about the runs she had to make.

She’d been feeling sick the past two weeks, throwing up everywhere and her stomach wasn’t even strong enough for a cup of coffee in the morning, making her even crankier. She opened the door to the cut-room and wasn’t surprised to see Darius laughing. He was laughing at her; she just knew it.

‘’Hey, look at this,’’ he said, and he burst out in laughing again as he played the clip. She’d been feeling nauseas all day, and this morning she had thrown up – when they were taping. After spending the whole morning with Jessie – the celeb – she’d been sick of him, and not only because of him, but also because of everything that had been going on the past few weeks.

‘’It’s not funny,’’ she said weakly, and he looked at her with a frown before laughing again. He stopped though, when he saw the look on her face. She really didn’t like it. ‘’I couldn’t help it,’’ she added, and he nodded.

‘’I know, and I’ve noticed you’ve been sick a lot lately,’’ he replied, and she shrugged. She had the feeling she was catching a bug or something, but no one believed her. ‘’I think you’re pregnant,’’ he told her, and she nodded. That’s what they all thought.

‘’And you know I can’t be,’’ she told him, and she really believed it. She couldn’t be pregnant, because she’d only had sex the one time, and they used a condom. No way she could be pregnant.

‘’Well, you know how that kind of thing goes, Samantha – you know they can break,’’ Darius said, and she shuddered. She didn’t want to think about any of that. She sat down suddenly feeling lightheaded, and she closed her eyes.

‘’I don’t want to talk about this anymore. It’s going to go away, and I’m going to feel better soon. I just haven’t had time to relax and sit back lately,’’ she told him, and it was the truth. Ever since she got the promotion, she’d been extremely busy, working around the clock. Mr. Young – her boss – wanted her to be there at all times, and he wanted her to be available for everything and everyone.

‘’I know, babe – and you will get better soon,’’ Darius said, pulling her out of her thoughts. She was glad he was on her side for once – because they were always on opposite sides, and lately she needed someone on her side. ‘’Geez Sam, why don’t you go home, I can handle this,’’ he told her when he looked at her, and she shook her head, feeling her stomach roll.

‘’No, I can help-‘’ she couldn’t even finish her sentence when she felt her stomach lurch, and she slapped her hand over her mouth and looked around for something – somewhere she could empty her stomach. She saw Darius widen his eyes and hand her the trashcan, and she removed her hand just in time. She emptied her stomach, and she could see the looks he was throwing her.

‘’You really need to get to a doctor, Samantha. This isn’t just a bug – it’s a love bug,’’ he told her, and she shook her head. She didn’t want to believe it was. ‘’Go home, Samantha. I don’t need you here,’’ he said sternly, when she didn’t listen.

‘’Darius-‘’

‘’No, go home, I don’t need you here. Just listen to me for once and do as I say, please,’’ he said, interrupting her, and she nodded. ‘’Just take the night to recharge,’’ he told her, and she nodded again. She slowly got up and smiled weakly at him, and he nodded at her to go. And so she did, slowly making her way out of the studio and into her car.

Looking around and seeing his friends Jason felt good. They were spending the night at his place, having gone out for the past three nights and not in the mood to go anywhere. Lucky was there, along with Nickolas and Jason’s sister Emily, and Sonny was there with the blonde from the club all those weeks ago, Carly. Lucky didn’t bring anyone, and Jason didn’t have anyone.

‘’So, ladies, do you want anything to drink?’’ Jason asked, and Carly nodded and ‘ordered’ a beer, and Emily shook her head.

‘’No thanks, Jason – I’m kind of tired,’’ she said looking at Nickolas, and Nick sighed and pretended he didn’t hear what she said. Jason glared at him, and Emily smiled. ‘’It’s ok,’’ she said, and she sat back in the chair.

‘’No, it’s not. Nick, she wants to go home – you go with her,’’ Jason ordered, and Nick sighed again and got up.

‘’Ok babe, lets go,’’ he said softly, and Emily looked up at him. ‘’Yeah, I’m sure,’’ he said, and Emily smiled. She stood to her feet and hugged Jason before waving at Sonny and Lucky, and then she took Nick’s hand and they walked out. Lucky looked at Jason and smiled.

‘’You’re a moody guy lately, Jase. What’s up with that?’’ he asked, and Sonny listened to hear his answer.

‘’You remember that chick I took home a couple of months ago?’’ he asked, and Sonny and Lucky nodded and grinned, still remembering the girl Jason took home – she’d been playing hard to get with them, but with Jason she’d been easy. ‘’Well, you also know Samantha McCall,’’ he added, and both Sonny and Lucky widened their eyes.

‘’Dude, are you saying you slept with the stiff one?’’ Lucky asked, ‘’the one from T.V – you know the one who’s been interviewing those idiots?’’

‘’Yeah, that’s the one I slept with – and she’s a bitch,’’ he said softly, and he turned around and made his way to the kitchen. He remembered the morning after, and he remembered the day after when he decided it would be nice to bring her flowers. He didn’t know what had gotten into him but he really felt bad for the way he left things that morning, but apparently she didn’t. She’d sent the flowers back, with a note not to contact her in any way, and he had been angry. Not only had she acted like he was dirt under her shoe, she’d also sent the flowers he’d sent her back with that cold note. He didn’t care if she was cold; he knew he could get her to warm up to him if she gave him the chance. He pulled out four beers and popped the caps, and then he made his way back to the living room.

‘’What are you talking about, she’s a bitch?’’ Lucky asked when he got back, and Jason frowned at him. He had hoped they’d forgotten about it while he was away, and let it go.

‘’The morning after she acted like I was dirt, and I felt sorry for treating her the way I did so I sent her flowers only to have them returned to my office,’’ he told Lucky, who started laughing. ‘’Come on, it’s not funny, you know I’ve never felt sorry for the way I behave before and I don’t know what had gotten into me to do something like that,’’ Jason growled, and Sonny nodded.

‘’No, it’s something you felt sorry, but come on, you don’t sent a One Night Stand flowers! You forget about them, not look back on something that was obviously a mistake,’’ he said, and Jason nodded. He knew that, it had been their motto. If they had a One Night stand, they didn’t look back. They made sure to forget about it, and not look back, because that meant it had gotten to them.

‘’What about you, mister?’’ he asked, and he refused to look at Carly. He liked Carly, sure he did – she was a breath of fresh air in the lives they had of going out. She made them see that they didn’t need to go out to have a good time – they could stay in and drink too.

‘’Yeah, well, we’re not looking at me right now, but Carly and I – we hit it off right away and we didn’t want it to be one night,’’ Sonny explained, and he kissed Carly. Jason turned around to look at Lucky who stood there nodding, and he sighed.

‘’You know what, I don’t care. I’m going to forget she ever happened to me,’’ Jason said, and he nodded once to show them he really would.

Sam sighed as Robin pulled her through the drug store. When she had gotten home, Robin had insisted on getting a pregnancy test, because she’d also seen her sister being sick, and she didn’t want to let her sister try and ignore it. ‘’You know, I don’t like you pushing me around,’’ Sam muttered, and Robin glared at her.

‘’You need this because I know for a fact you’re going to try and ignore this as long as possible,’’ Robin replied, and Sam sighed. Robin was right, though – she would ignore it. After Darius, and Robin and Patrick, she realized she could be pregnant. She wasn’t that naïve to believe she couldn’t be. Even though they did use a condom, and even though it was just the one time.

‘’Ok, ok – you’re right and I’m wrong,’’ Sam said, and then she bumped into Robin, who had found the spot where the tests were. It took Robin a minute to decide to take several, and she threw in some random tests. ‘’Do we need this much?’’ Sam asked with wide eyes, and Robin just nodded her head and threw in some more.

‘’You want to be sure – we’ll make sure, now come on,’’ Robin said, and Sam looked at the cart. Robin had thrown in a dozen different tests, and Sam sighed. She knew she was going to be up all night.

@@@

‘’Ok, this is the last one,’’ Sam said, feeling sick to her stomach. Nine out of ten of the tests said she was pregnant, and she knew this one was going to say the same. ‘’God, Robin what am I going to do?’’ she whispered as she sank down on the bed next to her big sister, and she felt the tears build up in her eyes.

‘’You’re going to tell that guy,’’ Robin simply replied, and Sam glared at her. That was not what she wanted to hear. ‘’I know you didn’t want to hear that, but you have to tell him. You have to decide together what you’re going to do,’’ Robin said, and Sam nodded. Sam knew her big sister was right; she just didn’t want to tell him.

‘’Yeah,’’ Sam whispered, ‘’this is a mess – why did I do it?’’ she asked her sister, who just shrugged and looked at the test. Sam didn’t have to look to know what it said. She could see it on her sister’s face. She burst out in tears, ‘’I don’t want this!’’

‘’Too bad, Samantha – you’re having it,’’ Robin said sternly, and then she softened and hugged her little sister. ‘’Come on, let’s get you something to drink huh?’’ Robin said, and Sam nodded. Robin pulled her up and held her hand as she led her to the kitchen, and Patrick stared at them for a moment before Robin glared at him. He turned around and made his way out of the kitchen. They’d already eaten, and Sam was glad they did, because she wouldn’t have been hungry anymore. As a matter of fact, she felt sick to her stomach to the point she almost threw up right now, and she didn’t think she could hold it down any longer.

‘’Robin, I don’t feel good,’’ she moaned, and Robin nodded.

‘’I understand honey, but you have to understand that you can’t do anything about this-‘’ she stopped when she saw the look on her sister’s face, and Sam widened her eyes. She ran to the bathroom and threw up in the toilet, and she felt her sister kneel down behind her and hold her hair up.

‘’God, why did this have to happen to me? I mean I’ve been good, right? I didn’t do anything wrong,’’ she muttered, and Robin laughed.

‘’Come on, Sam, don’t be like this,’’ she said, and Sam nodded as she sank back against the wall. She closed her eyes and took a couple of deep breaths.

‘’Ok, I’m good. I’m not going to be like this. I’m going to call the guy – he sent me flowers after…’’ her voice trailed off, ‘’he sent me flowers with his number on a card – I still have it somewhere,’’ Sam said softly, and Robin nodded.

‘’Smart girl,’’ she said, and Sam slowly got up and brushed her teeth. After she made her way to her room and searched for the card, and smiled when she found it. ‘’Now or never, Sam,’’ Robin said when she stared at the card for a good amount of time.

‘’Yeah,’’ Sam said, and she grabbed her cell. She dialed the number, but waited to press the button to call. ‘’Do you think I should tell him over the phone, or ask him to meet me?’’ she said, and Robin sighed.

‘’Just ask him to meet you tomorrow at lunch – it’s your day off anyway and I doubt he will be doing much,’’ Robin said, and Sam nodded. She looked at her phone again and felt her nerves flare up. She took a deep breath and pressed the call button, and then held her phone to her ear. It was now or never.

The music was playing, Sonny and Carly were having fun together and Jason and Lucky were talking when his phone rang. Jason got up and got his phone out of his pocket, and he looked at the caller ID. ‘’I don’t know who this is,’’ he said looking at Lucky, who just shrugged and sat back. Jason answered the phone, ‘’Morgan,’’ he said, and he sighed when no one said anything. ‘’Don’t play games with me,’’ he threatened.

‘’Jason? It’s Sam – I don’t know if you remember me-‘’ he heard, and he grinned.

‘’Yeah, I remember you – what’s up?’’ he said, and there was a silence. He grinned at Lucky and mouthed ‘Sam’, and Lucky widened his eyes and grinned back at him, holding up both of his thumbs.

‘’I – I was wondering if you had time to meet up tomorrow,’’ she said softly, and he frowned. He smiled at Lucky, and suddenly Sonny noticed he was on the phone.

‘’Who’s that? Is it the chick you fucked?’’ Sonny asked, and Jason shook his head with wide eyes and made a sign for Sonny to stop. But Sonny didn’t see it as he went on. ‘’Tell her I want to do her too – on the-‘’ Carly gave him a punch, and Sonny doubled over. Jason thanked Carly silently, and replied.

‘’Sure, what time?’’ he asked her, and he could hear her take a deep breath.

‘’What do you say around noon?’’ she said, ‘’that way you don’t have to get up early,’’ she added, and he sighed. If she really didn’t like him, why call him?

‘’Sure, see you around noon tomorrow. Kelly’s?’’ he added, and he heard her mutter her agreement. ‘’See you,’’ he said again, and he disconnected the line. He stared at his phone for a while, while Lucky and Sonny were yelling and laughing.

‘’What did she want, Jase?’’ Lucky asked after some time, and Jason stared at him.

‘’She wanted to meet up – she didn’t tell me why though,’’ he said, and Lucky laughed.

‘’She wants another booty call,’’ he yelled, and Sonny laughed and agreed. ‘’What do you think she wants? Come on Jase, she liked it, and she wants more!’’

‘’No I don’t think so,’’ he snapped, ‘’she still acted like I was something stuck under her shoes, so I don’t think so,’’ he added, and Lucky frowned.

‘’Well, the only way to find out is to go to Kelly’s and meet up with her,’’ he said, and Jason nodded. He was going to find out what she wanted and then he was going to tell her just what he thought of her.

‘’And, what did he say?’’ Robin asked, and Sam looked up. ‘’Is he going to come?’’

‘’Yeah, he’s going to come and we’re going to talk. Noon at Kelly’s,’’ she told her sister, and then she yawned. ‘’Robin, I’m really tired, I’m going to bed,’’ she said softly, and Robin nodded.

‘’Yeah, you rest and make sure you are fresh tomorrow,’’ Robin said, and she kissed Sam on her cheek. Sam smiled weakly and watched Robin walk out of her room and close the door behind her. She really hoped he wouldn’t be an ass and act like it wasn’t his fault – because she didn’t want that. She didn’t want him to turn his back on them – he didn’t have to have anything to do with her and the baby, but she just wanted him to act normal. She didn’t know if it was right to want that, but that’s how she felt. She climbed in bed and pulled the covers over her, and when she closed her eyes she could see his face. He was really attractive, but his attitude scared her off. As she drifted off, she dreamed of his reaction.

It was the end of the morning, and she sat at the diner. She didn’t know if he would show, but she had her hopes up. She knew he wanted to know what she wanted, because she’d heard it in his voice when she spoke to him, so she really hoped he would come. The door opened and the bell chimed, and she saw him walk in. His friend was with him, holding a woman. Sam rolled her eyes and hoped the friend didn’t come sit with them, but she sighed of relief when the woman pulled Jason’s friend in the other direction. Jason made his way to her and smiled at her, and she weakly smiled back.

‘’Hey,’’ she said, and he nodded. She felt her stomach turn and hoped for the best when he sat down.

‘’What did you want to talk about?’’ he asked, and she took a deep breath. She took the plunge.

‘’I’m pregnant,’’ she blurted out, and he frowned at her.

‘’No way,’’ he said with a smile, and she just nodded. ‘’No you can’t be pregnant!’’ he exclaimed, his voice still low.

‘’I am. I took a home pregnancy test and it showed I am pregnant,’’ she told him, leaving out the part where she had taken a dozen of them just to be sure.

‘’Are you kidding me? We had sex just the one time,’’ he said, his expression getting angrier by the minute. She shrugged, not knowing what to say.

‘’I thought you used a condom, but apparently it broke or something,’’ she said, and he laughed.

‘’I didn’t use a condom!’’ he said, and then when she frowned he added, ‘’you said ‘do it already’, and I did!’’

‘’I didn’t mean it like that! Geez, what do you think-‘’

‘’I thought you meant you wanted me to hurry up!’’ he interrupted her, and then he took a deep breath and tried to calm down. She stared at him, shocked at what she just found out, and then he opened his mouth. ‘’I want to know for sure – I want to go to the doctor and see for myself,’’ he said softly, and she frowned.

‘’I just told you-‘’

‘’I know, I know you just told me, but I want to see it for myself,’’ he interrupted her again, and she sighed. ‘’Please. Just give me that,’’ he added, and she nodded.

‘’Sure, I’ll make an appointment – I mean I’ll call you when I have a date,’’ she told him, and he nodded his thanks. ‘’Just don’t – I didn’t know,’’ she whispered, and he nodded.

‘’I know you didn’t,’’ he told her, and she nodded.

‘’Thank you,’’ she said, ‘’for not being angry with me,’’ she added, and he nodded.

‘’I hope you don’t plan on pushing me out of this baby’s life – I want to be a part of it,’’ he said to her, making sure she understood by glaring at her. She nodded.

‘’I want you to be part of this baby’s life too, Jason, believe me. I wouldn’t push you out,’’ she told him, and he nodded. They had to find a way to get along for this baby’s sake.

Chapter 3

Jason hadn’t heard from Sam in a couple of days. After she made the appointment she called him and told him when and where, and after that she didn’t contact him again. He didn’t know what to expect, but he knew the appointment was today. He had told her where he lived incase something happened. He wanted her to know that so she didn’t have to wonder where he was, what he did.

‘’Jase, open the door,’’ he heard, and he looked up. Sonny was standing there, and Jason got up from the couch and opened the door. ‘’What happened?’’ Sonny asked when he saw how Jason looked. Jason shrugged. He hadn’t been the same since Sam had told him she was pregnant.

‘’I have to get ready for the hospital,’’ he said dully, and Sonny nodded. Lucky and Nickolas walked in and closed the door behind them, and smiled at Jason.

‘’Hey dad, how are you doing,’’ Lucky asked jokingly. Jason glared at him, not appreciating his jokes, and Lucky backed off. ‘’You get ready – you have to shave and all of that dude,’’ Lucky said, and Jason nodded. He made his way up the stairs and shaved and showered, and after he felt a lot better. When he came down he grinned at Lucky, who was watching T.V – Sam’s show. She was good, and he remembered her telling him she got a promotion somewhere that night.

‘’I’m ready, and now I have to wait,’’ he said, and Lucky nodded, gesturing to the kitchen.

‘’Sonny’s making breakfast for us,’’ he told Jason, who rolled his eyes. They did that almost every morning – eating breakfast at Jason’s. Jason made his way to the kitchen to see Sonny standing behind the stove, with Nickolas next to him.

‘’And then you just add a little of this and a little of that,’’ Sonny muttered, and Nickolas nodded listening intently at what Sonny was telling him, ‘’and then it’s done,’’ Sonny added, and Nickolas frowned.

‘’Just like that?’’ he asked, and Sonny nodded and slid the egg on a plate. He handed the plate to Nick, who gave it to Jason. ‘’That’s for you, because we have all day while you have to go in about an hour or two,’’ he said, and Jason nodded and sat down. He dug in and smiled – Sonny had made this a lot, and he loved this kind of eggs.

Sam woke up with a pounding headache and sighed. If it wasn’t the nausea waking her up, it was the headache she almost every morning had, and she hated it. She didn’t want to be pregnant, but she didn’t have a choice. She looked at the time and saw she still had a couple of hours before she had to pick up Jason – she didn’t want to meet him at the hospital because she didn’t know if he would show up. ‘’Damn it,’’ she muttered when she felt her stomach lurch. Every time she thought of Jason she had the same feeling. She was feeling sick to her stomach, and at the same time she was excited. She didn’t understand why she felt that way, but she tried not to let it show.

‘’Samantha McCall, wake up right…’’ she heard Robin yell, and then the door opened, ‘’oh, you’re awake – good, because you need to get ready for your appointment,’’ she said, and Sam sighed and closed her eyes, throwing the covers over her head.

‘’I don’t want to get out,’’ she said, and Robin pulled the covers off of her head. ‘’Robin,’’ she whined, and Robin just grinned at her.

‘’Come on, Sam, get out and get ready, I’m going to make something for you – something you can keep down, and Patrick and Emma are already gone so it’s just the two of us,’’ Robin said, and Sam nodded. She slowly got out of bed and stood for a moment before going to the bathroom, and Robin made her way out of the room to make something to eat for Sam. Sam turned on the shower and threw off her clothes, then she stepped under the hot stream of water and sighed.

‘’I just want this to go away,’’ she whispered softly, and she sighed again. She didn’t mean that, she didn’t know what she wanted but she didn’t want to wish her baby away. She washed up, washed her hair and turned off the shower after she was done. She dried herself off and looked in the mirror. She was tired – she hadn’t been sleeping much, and she didn’t know if she should tell her boss she was pregnant or not. He had made it perfectly clear he didn’t want her to mess this up, and she knew this pregnancy could be trouble she didn’t want.

She stepped out of the bathroom and threw on some comfortable clothes – some jeans and a tank top – and smiled. She almost never got to wear something like this anymore because of her job, but because she had to take the day off for this appointment she didn’t have to dress up. She made her way out to the kitchen while drying her hair, and smiled at Robin who was just finishing up breakfast.

‘’I made you some eggs – I don’t know if it will stay put but if it doesn’t I always have crackers,’’ she said, and Sam nodded. She felt a lot better after her shower, and she hoped and prayed she would keep her breakfast down this time. She sat down and laid the towel behind her on the chair, and dug in.

‘’Hmmm, this is great Robin, you never made this before,’’ Sam said, and Robin shrugged.

‘’I never had someone to cook this for – I put something in there to settle everything and I know you need something right now,’’ she told her, and Sam nodded. She sighed as she took the last bite and sat back in the chair.

‘’Thank you Robin,’’ she said softly, and Robin nodded and smiled at Sam. ‘’I’m going to fix my hair and then I’m going to pick up Jason,’’ she said, and Robin nodded again. Sam made her way to her room and did her hair, and then she went back to the kitchen to say goodbye to Robin.

‘’I’ll see you after,’’ Robin said when Sam walked into the kitchen, and she hugged her. ‘’Tell me everything ok?’’ she said, and Sam nodded as she walked away. She made her way to her car and smiled when she started it. She was getting excited about the appointment; along with the nerves that had already been there since she found out she was pregnant.

She looked up at the building and took a deep breath. She didn’t know if she was ready to go up, but when she looked at her watch she knew she didn’t have that much more time. She made her way in and stepped in the elevator, pressed the button and watched the doors slide closed. When the elevator started moving, her stomach moved up, and she closed her eyes and held her breath for a second. She realized she wasn’t going to like this elevator while pregnant, and was glad when the doors opened and she could step out. She looked at the door of his apartment and sighed, remembering the night they conceived this baby. She rubbed her stomach and slowly approached the door, knocked on it, and waited. The door opened almost immediately, but it wasn’t Jason opening it. It was the blonde woman she had seen at the diner a couple of days ago.

‘’I – I’m looking for Jason,’’ Sam said, and the woman nodded and let her in. Sam stepped in and stopped in front of the door, not sure if she should follow the blonde into the kitchen or not. Jason didn’t come out – one of his friends did.

‘’Hey mom, how’re you doing?’’ he asked her, and Sam frowned at him.

‘’I’m looking for Jason,’’ she said, suddenly recognizing him as one of the men hitting on her in the club. ‘’Who are you?’’ she asked, and he stepped forward and stood a couple of inches from her.

‘’I’m Lucky, and I think you’re going to get lucky too, soon – if you let me,’’ he said, and she grimaced. She didn’t like this man. ‘’Jason is in the kitchen, just go that way,’’ he said when he saw the look on her face, and she nodded and stepped around him.

‘’Thank you,’’ she said stiffly, and she could hear him mutter something. ‘’What did you say there?’’ she asked him, turning around to face him, and he shrugged.

‘’I said you need something to loosen you up, because I’d hate for that kid to end up being just like you,’’ he said, and she blinked. He’d hurt her without even thinking about it, and she tried not to let it show, but somehow she felt the tears in her eyes build up. She shook her head and turned around, not wanting anyone to see her cry. She stood there for a moment before making her way into the kitchen, to find not only Jason and the blonde, but also two other men. One of the men she remembered from the diner, but the other one she had never seen before.

‘’Sam, what are you doing here?’’ Jason asked her confused, and he frowned at her. ‘’I thought I’d meet you at the hospital,’’ he added, and she nodded.

‘’I thought I’d come and pick you up,’’ she said, and then she looked around. ‘’I’m Sam,’’ she said, realizing Jason wouldn’t introduce her, and the men nodded, as the woman held out her hand.

‘’I’m Carly, and this man is Sonny – that guy is Nickolas,’’ she told Sam, who nodded her thanks and shook her hand.

‘’Nice to meet you all,’’ she said softly, and Nickolas chuckled.

‘’It’s nice to finally see the chick Jason knocked up,’’ he said, and Carly punched him on his arm. ‘’Ouch, why did you do that?’’ he asked her, and he backed of when he saw Carly glare. Sam was grateful for the woman helping her, because she didn’t know what was wrong with her. She never let someone treat her like that, and now she had accepted it twice.

‘’Ummm, so you want me to come with you now?’’ Jason asked, and Sam nodded, a little angry with him for not defending her. ‘’Well, let me get ready madam,’’ he snapped, and Sam frowned at him. What was their problem with her?

‘’Ok, you know what – you can learn to be nice or don’t come around at all,’’ she snapped, and she stalked out of the kitchen, through the living room and out of his apartment. Once out of it, she sank down against the wall and cried. She really didn’t want to cry, but she didn’t know what was wrong with her. The door opened and Carly walked out, sank down next to Sam and just sat there for a moment.

‘’You know, they are all a little immature, but they will grow up and see what they did and said was wrong. You just need to be strong because you can’t push Jason out of your baby’s life because you don’t like him – you will simply need to find a way to…’’ Carly stopped to think about the word she was looking for, ‘’tolerate him until he does,’’ she said when she found it, and Sam looked up and wiped away her tears.

‘’It’s easier said than done,’’ Sam replied, and Carly nodded.

‘’I know, but you know – I’ve been around for at least 8 weeks, and even though they act like they don’t care, and even though they act like children, they really are nice guys – all of them,’’ Carly told her, and then she got up and held out her hand. ‘’Come on, go back in and wait for Jason, because he is going to come with you,’’ she said, and Sam nodded and took Carly’s help to get up.

‘’Thank you, Carly,’’ she said softly, and Carly smiled at her. Sam had the feeling she had found a new friend.

Jason watched Sam walk back into the penthouse and sighed of relief. When he saw Carly follow her, he knew he had to thank the woman. He didn’t want to scare Sam away, but he was just so confused with all of this, that he didn’t know how to act around her. ‘’Are you ready?’’ he asked her without really looking at her, and she nodded silently. He held out his hand for her, but wasn’t surprised when she didn’t take it. ‘’Let’s go then,’’ he muttered, and he waved to his friends.

‘’Be careful – she might bite you,’’ Lucky said, ‘’or if you like it…’’ he added, and that’s when Sam turned around and glared at him.

‘’You better stop, or you won’t be so Lucky anymore,’’ she snapped, and Carly laughed as Lucky widened his eyes. ‘’I mean it, because I don’t tolerate you making fun of me,’’ she added in a low, threatening voice, and Lucky held up his hands and backed off. Jason placed a hand on her lower back and led her out of the penthouse, not ready for the first fight between his baby’s mother and his friends.

‘’Sam, you-‘’ he started, but she interrupted him.

‘’I meant what I said, Jason. If you want to see the baby at the appointments you’re going to have to reign them in – because I can’t have them acting like that every time I come over,’’ she said, and he frowned when he heard the tears in her voice.

‘’Are you ok?’’ he asked her, and she glared at him. ‘’Ok, you know you can’t shut me out…’’ his voice faded when she held up her hand.

‘’Geez, did you hear me say you’d never get to see our baby, huh? I said I didn’t want them to act like that around me or I’ll just send you pictures until I give birth,’’ she snapped, and he nodded.

‘’You’re right, they have to act normal around you, but I can’t tell them what to do,’’ he told her, and she rolled her eyes. ‘’You know, maybe if you weren’t so stiff and if you didn’t act like we’re all beneath you…’’ he snapped, finally tired of her behavior toward him, and she frowned at him.

‘’What are you talking about? I’m…’’ she stopped talking when he held up his hand, but he didn’t say anything until they were at the car.

‘’Just drive to the hospital so we can get this over with,’’ he said, and she nodded and stepped in the car. Jason stepped in the passengers seat and sighed when she drove away. He didn’t know how he was going to keep this up, because he really didn’t like the woman he was having a child with.

Sam walked into the hospital with Jason following her and sighed. She was nervous, because she didn’t know if it was a good idea having Jason there with her on her first appointment, but he had insisted on it. He wanted to know for sure, as if she was going to lie to him about a pregnancy she didn’t want. She scoffed, and he frowned at her as he sat down. She closed her eyes and sat down opposite of him in the waiting area, knowing Dr. Lee – her OB/GYN – knew she was there already.

‘’Miss. McCall, I’m here to take you to the examination room so you can get changed,’’ the nurse said when she stopped in front of her, and Sam got up and followed the nurse. She didn’t need to look back to know Jason was following her too. When the nurse opened the door to one of the examination rooms, Sam followed her in, and Jason stayed outside.

‘’What, now you don’t want to come in?’’ Sam asked him, and he shrugged looking down. ‘’Come on, I’m not going to wait for you all day,’’ she said, and she stepped in the room.

‘’There is a gown over there – just put it on and wait for the doctor to come,’’ the nurse said, and Sam nodded. She looked over at Jason who was still standing outside the room, and she sighed.

‘’Are you coming in or what? You didn’t want to miss this in case I was lying,’’ she reminded him, and he nodded. He slowly stepped in and closed the door, and Sam stepped around the curtain to change. She took her time, not sure what to expect when the doctor came.

‘’Do you know this doctor?’’ she heard Jason ask, and she rolled her eyes.

‘’No, I don’t. I never needed to go here for this kind of things,’’ she told him, and she stepped around the curtain to look at him. He stared at her, and she frowned at him. ‘’What?’’

‘’Do you know if it’s a woman or a man?’’ he asked her, and she shook her head. ‘’I want you to have a woman,’’ he added, and she frowned.

‘’Does it really matter?’’ she asked, just as there was a knock on the door and it opened. A woman walked in and Sam saw Jason relax, sighing in relief as she introduced herself.

‘’Hello, I’m Dr. Lee, and I will be here to guide you through this pregnancy,’’ the woman said as she shook hands with both of them.

‘’So it’s confirmed?’’ Jason asked, and Dr. Lee nodded at him with a smile.

‘’When Sam came over here to make the appointment, she told me she didn’t have a lot of time, so she gave me what I needed and I checked it right away. It’s confirmed, she’s pregnant,’’ Dr. Lee replied, and Jason closed his eyes and nodded. ‘’So I’d just want to examinate Sam, and I want some background on you and Sam,’’ she told him, and he frowned.

‘’What do you mean background?’’ he asked, and Sam could sense some tension coming back. She wondered why it made him nervous to talk about a background.

‘’I need to know if there are any diseases in your family, and if you are taking any meds for anything,’’ Dr. Lee told him, and he nodded and looked around nervously.

‘’I don’t know any of that,’’ he said, and Sam frowned and opened her mouth to say something when he added, ‘’I have brain damage and I lost communication with my family – they don’t want to talk to me anymore.’’ Sam felt bad for him, but she could see the feeling was mutual. He didn’t want to spend time with his family it seemed.

‘’Well, then we’d just have to leave that out. It doesn’t matter, if there is something wrong we can always find a way to get to know what kind of things you have in the family, but right now we just need to know if this baby is healthy,’’ Dr. Lee replied, and Jason nodded again. Dr. Lee turned around to face Sam, who was staring at Jason. ‘’So, are you ready to-‘’

‘’I just want you to know that I don’t want to have another doctor, not with the birth either,’’ Jason interrupted, and Sam closed her eyes and counted to ten. Dr. Lee turned back with a smile.

‘’I’ll be available, Jason, don’t worry,’’ she told him, and she turned back to Sam. ‘’I’m going to just check some things out, and then we’re going to take a look at the baby,’’ she told her, and she began examining her. Sam tried to sit comfortable, but with Jason looking at everything Dr. Lee was doing she didn’t feel comfortable, and when Dr. Lee was done with the examination, Sam sighed of relief. But she knew it wasn’t everything that needed to be done.

‘’What are you going to do now?’’ Jason asked, and Dr. Lee looked at him.

‘’I’m going to do an ultrasound. Sam’s told me she has been having irregular periods and I just want to take a look,’’ she told him, not even remotely irritated by his questions. ‘’Sam, did you drink enough?’’ the doctor asked, and Sam nodded.

‘’Yeah, enough because I have the feeling I’m going to explode soon,’’ she replied, and Dr. Lee smiled and put some of the gel on Sam’s stomach. Sam flinched when she felt the cold gel his her stomach, but she didn’t say anything when Dr. Lee put the transducer on her stomach and moved it around a little.

‘’See that – yeah, that’s definitely your baby right there,’’ Dr. Lee said pointing at the screen, and Sam looked at the screen a long time before she saw something flicker. That was her baby, and it felt really good just thinking that. She felt her eyes start to burn with tears as she looked up at Jason, who was looking at the screen.

‘’That’s our baby,’’ he whispered, looking down at her, and she nodded. He took her hand and smiled at her, while Dr. Lee pressed a couple of buttons and smiled at them.

‘’Take good care of it, you two. I’ll have a picture in a minute, and you can get dressed now Sam,’’ she told them, and Sam nodded and closed her eyes for a moment. A lone tear slid down her cheek and she wiped it away quickly, and then she got up and walked around the curtain again. It felt good, having seen her baby for the first time. She’d known it was there, inside of her, but to actually see it made it so real.

‘’Do you want to go get something to drink at Kelly’s before going home?’’ Jason asked Sam, as they made their way to her car. She looked at him and he saw the doubt in her eyes. ‘’I mean I thought we’d get to know each other better because we’re going to have to spend a lot of time together the next couple – the next 20 years,’’ he said, and she nodded and looked down.

‘’I’d like to have a drink,’’ she replied, and he frowned. She sounded like she could burst in to tears at any moment. He didn’t ask about it, because he didn’t want to make it worse. ‘’You know – about what you said before we left – I’m sorry,’’ she said softly, and then she looked up at him.

‘’I didn’t-‘’ he started to say, but she interrupted him.

‘’Yeah you did mean it, and you were right. I act like you’re not good enough and I shouldn’t because I don’t know you. I’m sorry, I really am,’’ she said, and she wiped away a stray tear. ‘’I’d like to get to know the father of my baby,’’ she said with a weak smile, and he nodded and smiled at her.

‘’I’d like to get to know my baby’s mother too, and it doesn’t matter how you act – I mean it does,’’ he said, and then he frowned, not knowing how to put it in words. ‘’Let’s just get a drink and get to know each other. We’re going to see a lot of each other,’’ he said with a wink, and she nodded. ‘’I’m getting excited – it seems like a long time, but I know the fourth of February will be here soon,’’ he mumbled, and she nodded. Then she seemed to think about something and she looked at him with wide eyes.

‘’What about the picture?’’ she asked, ‘’We only have one and I’d really want both of us-‘’ he interrupted her once again, but this time she didn’t mind.

‘’We’ll make a copy of it at Kelly’s – I know Mike has a scanner in there,’’ he told her, and she smiled. ‘’Let’s go,’’ he added, and she nodded. Then she drove off, to Kelly’s to have a drink.

Chapter 4

6 weeks later

The weeks had gone by fast, without any problems, and Sam was glad. Jason had come by a couple of times and they had met a lot at Kelly’s. They didn’t spend too much time together and Sam was happy, because she didn’t think she’d like it to spend whole days with him yet. Jason was still immature, and he still drank too much. One of the times he came to Kelly’s to meet her, he’d had a hangover and he’d been snappy. She didn’t like it when he acted like that, but she understood a little more about Jason Morgan. He’d told her more about his brain damage, how it changed his life by loosing his memory. It didn’t matter though, because if he wanted his child to spend time with him, he needed to sober up and stop drinking. She shook her head. He wouldn’t do that until she told him that, and she hadn’t told him that.

His friends, she didn’t know what to think of them. Carly was the only one acting normal around her, and Sam was grateful for that. But Lucky and Sonny acted like she was only an incubator, hurting her with their words every time she came over to see Jason. She had given it up after a couple of times, because she had realized they would always be at his place. Nickolas acted normally, and she had found out he was married to Jason’s sister, Emily. Sam had never met Emily, but she knew the woman was the only one of the family Jason had contact with.

‘’Sam, can you come and help me please!’’ she heard Patrick yell, and she shook her head to clear her thoughts. She was already dressed and ready to go, but she didn’t have to go to work until after lunch. ‘’Samantha!’’ he called out again, and Sam rolled her eyes and opened her door.

‘’Patrick, what is it?’’ she asked, and he sighed harshly.

‘’I need help with Emma, you promised you would babysit this morning!’’ he called out, and she sighed. She took Emma from him and smiled at her niece, and then looked back at Patrick.

‘’Are you going somewhere?’’ she asked, and he nodded, but didn’t answer her. She rolled her eyes again and looked down at her niece, who was playing with a loose stand of her hair. ‘’Hey, Emma, what do you say we go to the living room and watch a movie, huh?’’ she asked her niece, who just looked up and smiled a big smile at her. Sam made her way to the living room and sighed when she saw Robin sitting on the couch.

‘’Hey, you know Patrick and me are going out for the day, you can babysit right?’’ she said, and Sam shook her head.

‘’No, Robin I told you I have to work today – I need to go in in the afternoon!’’ she exclaimed, and Robin nodded and closed her eyes.

‘’Have you told your boss you’re pregnant?’’ she asked, and Sam sighed. She still hadn’t told him she was pregnant, because she knew she would loose her job if she did.

‘’No, I haven’t,’’ she replied, and Robin opened her eyes and laughed.

‘’You honestly think he wouldn’t see in a while, Sam?’’ she asked, and then there was a knock on the door. ‘’Oh, that’s my queue. Patrick!’’ she yelled, and Patrick came running and grabbed a hold of Robin’s hand. They walked out, waving at Sam and Emma, and a minute later Jason stepped in. Sam widened her eyes and he grinned at her, but walked over to Emma and started cooing her.

‘’What are you doing here?’’ she asked him, and he turned around with a grin still on his face.

‘’Robin and Patrick asked me to watch Emma,’’ he said, and Sam frowned. ‘’I was surprised too, but I said yes because I need the practice,’’ he added, and she sighed and closed her eyes for a moment.

‘’Ok, so you watch her this afternoon too?’’ she asked, and when he nodded she sighed of relief. ‘’Good, because I have to work this afternoon and I can’t not go,’’ she said, and he frowned.

‘’I thought you were off today?’’ he said, confusion in his voice. She nodded, and thought back on when her boss called to make her work today.

‘’Yeah, it was my day off but they need me to help with the cutting because the guy that normally does that is sick,’’ she told him, and he nodded.

‘’Good, so you don’t have to stand on your feet all day – I wanted to ask you something,’’ he said, and when she nodded he looked at her for a moment and then looked down, ‘’I was wondering if you’d like to have dinner with me tonight,’’ he rushed to say, and she smiled at him and made her way over to him. She lifted his chin and forced him to look at her, and saw the question in his eyes.

‘’I’d love that – but I don’t know when I’ll be done with work,’’ she said softly, and he nodded and looked away again. ‘’Hey, I’ll call you ok, when I’m done? And then we’ll just go somewhere nice,’’ she told him, and he smiled at her.

‘’Sure – you want us to bring you to work or are you going by yourself?’’ he asked her, and she sighed.

‘’Well, if you bring me, you’ll have to pick me up,’’ she said with a wink, and he nodded. She knew right away that he had thought of it too. ‘’Sure, you two can bring me,’’ she said as she looked at Emma who was staring at them.

‘’Hey baby girl, why don’t we watch a movie,’’ Jason cooed, and Sam smiled at him as Emma jumped for joy. Jason took her in his arms and made his way over to the DVD player, where the DVD’s lay. He sifted through them and grimaced, but choose one of the Disney movies that lay there and put it in. ‘’Come on, you have to watch too,’’ he said, and Sam nodded. She sat down, and the three of them watched Cinderella together.

@@@@@@

Jason stared at her more than he watched the movie, but she didn’t seem to notice. He couldn’t stop looking at her, she was glowing and she seemed happy. She didn’t treat him like dirt anymore, and underneath all of that attitude there was a nice woman. She still didn’t want to come over to his place, because of what happened between her and Lucky and Sonny. They had been trying to get her to loosen up, only to have her close up whenever they were around. Jason didn’t know why they tried to get to her, but he didn’t like it. He had tried to talk to them, but they didn’t listen, and that’s when she decided she didn’t want to come over to his place anymore.

He’d agreed, and whenever he needed to talk to her he would just go over to her sisters’ place. She didn’t know, but he had been looking around for a place, because she didn’t have enough spare time with her job to look for something, and he made good money, and had a lot of savings and his trust fund, and he could help her buy a place for her and the baby.

‘’Jason, can you help me here for a moment,’’ Sam suddenly asked, and he looked at her and frowned when he saw how pale she was.

‘’Are you ok?’’ he asked her, and she shook her head, handing Emma over to him and making her way to the back, where he supposed her room was. He stood to his feet and took Emma with him to the back, where he jumped back in surprise when he heard her throw up. He sat Emma down on the floor in her own room, knowing she couldn’t hurt herself in there, and made his way over to Sam’s room again. He tried the door; surprised it wasn’t locked, and stepped in. He frowned in concern when he saw her over the toilet, and he jumped in action as he saw her hair hanging. He held it back for her and rubbed her back in slow circles. She moaned and leaned back against his chest, and he held her close.

‘’I’m sorry,’’ she said softly, and he shook his head.

‘’It’s not your fault. I’m sorry – I mean I did this to you,’’ he said, affected by her being sick to the point he felt guilty. ‘’I’m sorry,’’ he repeated, and she looked up at him with a frown.

‘’Are you regretting any of this? I mean you can still back off if you want,’’ she whispered, and he shook his head.

‘’No, no, I don’t want to back off, its just that I feel guilty seeing you like this,’’ he told her, and she nodded.

‘’But you don’t have to. I did this too, and I don’t feel guilty. I mean, why should I – we’re going to have a baby, Jason, and I admit I’m scared, but I’m also excited,’’ she told him, and he smiled at her. She was right, and she made him feel better.

‘’Thank you,’’ he said softly, and she nodded and tried to get up. He got up and held out his hand, and she took it with a smile. ‘’You go freshen up – I will go back to Emma,’’ he told her, and she widened her eyes.

‘’You left her alone! Jason how could you-‘’

‘’Oh please, I put her in her room where she can’t hurt herself, Sam. What do you think of me,’’ he snapped, and she widened her eyes and turned away. He walked out of the bathroom, feeling worse than before, and he made his way back to Emma, who was still playing peacefully in her bedroom. ‘’Hey Emma, we need to get ready to bring Sam to her work, are you coming with me?’’ he asked the little girl, who looked up and grinned at him. He smiled at her and picked her up just as Sam turned around the corner.

‘’I’ll go by myself,’’ she said, and he rolled his eyes, but shrugged. He didn’t care. ‘’You can stay here with Emma and I’ll call you later,’’ she told him, and he nodded.

‘’You still want to have dinner?’’ he asked, and she nodded. ‘’Good, because I want to discuss some things – better now than later,’’ he told her, and she paled even more than she already had. He didn’t pay attention to it, but when she turned around he could see her shoulders shake a couple of times before she walked away and was out of sight. He took a deep breath and looked down at Emma, who was still in his arms playing with his shirt. ‘’Well, I guess it’s you and me baby,’’ he said, and she smiled up at him.

Sam blinked and looked at the time, and saw it was nearing 7 and she was nowhere near done. She sighed and got back to work, all the while cursing Mr. Young for calling her on her day off, cursing herself for agreeing to come in on her day off. Suddenly her phone rang, and she took it at the second ring. ‘’Samantha McCall,’’ she said, and she heard her voice and frowned. She sounded dull and tired.

‘’Sam? It’s Jason, I was wondering if you could make it tonight – I know you’ll probably be tired so I was just wondering if you could, and if you can’t I wouldn’t mind,’’ he rambled, and she sighed. She had forgotten all about her plans tonight with Jason, and she didn’t know if she could make it.

‘’I don’t know, I’m still extremely busy here and I don’t know when I’ll be done,’’ she said, and she could hear him say something to someone else.

‘’It’s ok, I’ll just see you tomorrow,’’ he said, and then, without waiting for a reply, he disconnected the line. She looked at her phone and moaned, and then she put it back down on the table and resumed her work.

@@@

It was 9 when she was done, and she rubbed her eyes. She didn’t feel like doing anything tonight, because she was tired, but she knew Robin would want to talk about what she had done today. She didn’t want to think about what happened between Jason and her earlier today. She really hadn’t meant to make him angry or make him feel bad, she had just been afraid something had happened to Emma while she was alone. He didn’t tell her he had put her in her own room, so why would she think the worst?

She walked over to her car and drove home, thinking about nothing, because she was too tired to think and drive at the same time. She knew it was because she was pregnant, but she didn’t like it at all. It didn’t take her that long to arrive home, and when she did she saw a car she didn’t recognize. She sighed, she wasn’t up to meeting someone new, but she didn’t have a choice. She made her way inside and frowned when she saw Lucky and Nickolas sitting in the living room. There was still no sign of Robin and Patrick, and she didn’t see Jason or Emma. ‘’What are you doing here?’’ she asked tiredly, and the men both looked up and widened their eyes at her.

‘’Oh my god – Jason! She’s back, the witch is back!’’ Lucky screamed, and Sam felt like someone had punched her in the gut. She couldn’t deal with this right now. ‘’Jason!’’ Lucky yelled again, and then he got up and stumbled back. Sam frowned. He was drunk, and by the looks of it, Nickolas was too.

‘’Where is he?’’ she asked, and Nickolas pointed to the back. Sam stalked over to the back and looked in her room, then in Emma’s room and saw her was hanging over her crib. ‘’What the hell are you thinking bringing your friends over here?’’ she whispered harshly, and he stood straight and frowned at her.

‘’They came over by themselves, Sam, and they brought their own drinks, now back off because I’m not in the mood for this,’’ he whispered just as harshly, and she took a step back and took a deep breath. She wasn’t going to cry, even though she felt her chest tightening at his cold stare. She wasn’t going to cry.

‘’I’m going to take a shower, but I don’t want them here. Send them away,’’ she snapped at him, and he just shook his head and walked away, while she stood looking at Emma for a second and then walked to her own room and turned on the shower. She jumped when she felt a tear slid down, and wiped it away, but it didn’t work. Tears were now rolling down her cheeks, and she cursed herself and her hormones as she stepped under the hot stream.

@@@@@@

‘’What did you say to her, Lucky?’’ Jason asked as he walked into the living room, and Lucky shrugged. Jason moaned when he saw the redness in his eyes and knew Lucky was drunk.

‘’I called for you, told you she was back,’’ he slurred, and that’s when Nick jumped in.

‘’He said ‘Jason, the witch is back’,’’ Nick said slowly, and Jason closed his eyes and sank down in the chair. Now he knew why she was angry, and he didn’t blame her.

‘’Damn it Lucky. Do you want her to push me out of my kids life just because you don’t like her?’’ he snapped, and Lucky frowned. ‘’I’ll call you a cab because you two cant drive anymore,’’ he added, and he took his phone and called a cab for the guys. Then he looked at them sternly and frowned.

‘’Jason, come on. She doesn’t like us, and she show’s it. Why wouldn’t I show it back?’’ Lucky said, being completely unreasonable.

‘’Because it doesn’t matter if she doesn’t like you, but when you act like you do she’s going to push me out, Lucky. Let me tell you this – if you ever act like that again I’m going to push you out, and you can’t bring me on other thoughts. You’ve gone to far, and I don’t like that at all,’’ he snapped, and he heard something move just outside the living room. When he looked up he saw Sam standing there, tears in her already red eyes, and he jumped up. She walked away though, and he glared at his friends. ‘’Go wait outside and be silent, because there’s a baby sleeping. I’ll bring you your car Nick, tomorrow,’’ he said, and he pulled both the buys up by their arm. They struggled for a bit, but Jason glared at both of them and they stopped.

‘’What the hell is wrong with you, Jason, are you crazy? She’s still acting like you’re something stuck on the bottom of her shoe, and you just accept it!’’ Lucky said, and Jason shook his head.

‘’No, she’s only acting that way toward you because you act like a baby,’’ he snapped, and he pushed them outside and closed the door behind them. Then he made his way to Sam’s bedroom, knocked on the door and waited. ‘’Sam?’’ he called out, and then he opened the door. She was on the bed, with her eyes closed, but he could see she wasn’t asleep. ‘’Sam, I’m sorry,’’ he whispered, and he made his way to the bed and sat down next to her.

‘’It’s ok,’’ she muttered, and he shook his head. ‘’I mean he’s just being himself, and I don’t-‘’

‘’No, no Sam, don’t do that, because he’s a jerk and he knows it. Once he realizes you’re here to stay, and once he realizes I don’t tolerate that kind behavior, he will stop acting like this because he’s going to look at you, and he’s going to see what I see. You’re a sweet and generous person, Sam, and even though we have our fights and disagreements, I really like you,’’ he told her, and she looked at him and wiped away her tears.

‘’Thank you,’’ she whispered, and he nodded and smiled at her. He held out his arms, and she sat up and moved into his embrace. He held her tight, feeling her body shake when she started to sob. ‘’It’s just hard, you know,’’ she whispered, and he nodded.

‘’We will get through it. And if those jerks don’t act normally around you I’ll kick their asses the next time,’’ he told her, and she laughed softly through her sobs. He could feel she was tired, and he put her down on the bed. ‘’Go rest, I’ll stay here until Robin and Patrick come home,’’ he told her, and she nodded. He stood to his feet, but when he wanted to walk away she grabbed his hand.

‘’Stay with me, please? We can hear Emma when she cries, but I don’t want to be alone in here,’’ she said softly, and he nodded. He lay down behind her, and pulled her in his arms. She sighed, and he closed his eyes for a moment. He could hear her breathing steady, and knew when she fell asleep.

Sam woke up some time later and noticed Jason was still behind her, in a deep sleep. She rolled on her back and he pulled her even closer. She smiled as she watched him sleep. He seemed so peaceful, and he didn’t look at all like the person he was when he was awake. She remembered what he had done for her, calming her down with his deep voice, telling her he would kick his friends’ asses if they didn’t treat her normally, and she laughed softly.

‘’Sam,’’ Jason moaned as he stirred, and she tensed, hoping he would fall back asleep. He didn’t though, ‘’how are you feeling?’’ he asked, and she shrugged. She was still tired, but she felt a lot better.

‘’Better, thank you,’’ she said, and then she sat up. He stood to his feet and gently pushed her back down on the bed as she was about to stand, and then he kneeled in front of her. She looked down at him with wide eyes, not knowing what to expect, but curious as to what he was about to say.

‘’I realized, when you left for work this afternoon, that we skipped one part of this,’’ he said, and she frowned, ‘’Sam, I know we don’t know each other that well,’’ he said looking down, and she took a deep breath to say something when he looked up and knocked the air out of her, ‘’will you marry me?’’ he asked, and she gasped. He watched her expression intensely, waiting for her answer, and she closed her eyes.

‘’Jason…’’ she muttered, and then she opened her eyes and smiled weakly at him, ‘’don’t you think it’s too soon? I mean I’m – I love you for asking me, because I know it’s hard, but what do you think about it?’’ she asked, ‘’do you want this, Jason?’’ she added to her question, and he closed his eyes. She felt bad when she saw the defeated look on his face, but he opened his eyes and smiled at her.

‘’I know, but I just…’’ his voice trailed off and she nodded, understanding what he was trying to say.

‘’You thought I wanted it, or you thought it was the right thing to do,’’ she said, and he nodded. ‘’We don’t have to get married, you know. It wouldn’t make a difference, because either way you would get to see our baby, when ever you want,’’ she told him, and he sighed.

‘’I know, Sam, I trust you in that, and I know you don’t want to get married but I just wanted you to know that if you did want to get married, I would agree to it, I mean I want to let you know I do want to be there,’’ he rambled, and then the door opened. Sam knew Robin and Patrick had come home, and she sighed.

‘’I appreciate it, Jason, I really do, but I do think it’s too fast,’’ she whispered, and he nodded. He stood to his feet and she did the same, looking up to him and holding out her arms. She didn’t want to hurt him, and when he stepped in her embrace, she knew it was ok.

‘’Sam, we’re home,’’ she heard Robin yell out, and she held Jason tight to her and then he let go.

‘’Go, I’ll be right there,’’ he said, and she nodded, and then looked up at him. He had his eyes closed, and she wondered what he was thinking. She found she could read him well over time, but right now she couldn’t. She shook her head and walked away, brushing her hand against his arm on her way out, and he sighed when she did. She didn’t look back, but she could hear him sink down on the bed as she closed the door, and she felt guilty for saying no. If she had said yes, he wouldn’t be sad right now. She smiled when she saw Robin standing over Emma’s crib, and walked to the living room, where Patrick sat on the couch.

‘’Hey Samantha. How did it go today?’’ he asked, and Sam shrugged, sinking down next to him on the couch. She hated it when he called her Samantha, because he was the only one who used her full name.

‘’It went ok, but you’d have to ask Jason what happened while I was at work. I didn’t think I’d be working until 9, but Jason stayed and is still here,’’ she replied, and just when she finished saying it, Jason walked into the living room with Robin following him.

‘’Emma was a good girl today,’’ he said, having heard what Sam had said, and Patrick nodded and closed his eyes. ‘’When Sam went to work we just hung out here for a while, went to the park after and had dinner when we came home,’’ he added, telling Patrick everything. Sam smiled at him, because somehow he knew Patrick would want to know everything that happened. ‘’Sam came home when I was just checking on her, and she was sleeping soundly,’’ he said, and Patrick smiled thankfully.

‘’Thank you Jason, for babysitting her. Now I’m going to bed,’’ he said, and Robin nodded and waved as she followed Patrick. Sam sighed of relief; glad she didn’t have to stay up much longer.

‘’I’m going home too, so you can take a good sleep,’’ Jason said softly, and she looked up at him and nodded. ‘’I’ll see you soon,’’ he said, and he leaned forward and kissed her cheek.  He held out his hand when she wanted to stand, gesturing she should stay seated, and he walked out of the house. Sam sighed again, standing up as she heard the door close, and made her way to the bedroom. She was exhausted, and she wanted to just sleep and never wake up. When she stepped in her bed, and her head hit the pillow, she drifted off right away.

Jason didn’t know if he felt bad, or he felt good. He didn’t know what to feel at the moment, thinking about Sam turning down his proposal, but then he reminding himself of the fact that they didn’t know each other that well. They saw each other almost every day, and even thought they were close, it was just too soon. She’d been right about that. He just wanted her to know he would be there for her, and he was prepared to marry her to make sure she knew. He shook his head, knowing she was right. He smiled at the thought of them marrying, and then he felt a lot better thinking she was right. It was too soon, but he really liked what he knew about her. Someday, he thought, he would ask her again.

Chapter 5

6 weeks later

After Jason had proposed to Sam, they hadn’t seen each other for a couple of days. It wasn’t something that happened, and Sam was afraid he was mad at her for turning him down. But he came back, because he called her and asked her if she had time for lunch a couple of days after, and she had happily agreed. After that, they didn’t talk about the proposal anymore, and they had gotten a lot closer. They knew each other pretty well by now, because they had spent a lot of time together, and Sam realized she really liked Jason. He’d told her about his past, which he didn’t remember, and she noticed he felt uncomfortable talking about it, and was honored to be one of the few he told about what happened.

When he was younger, he’d been in a car accident with his brother, resulting in him loosing his memory and his brother started feeling guilty and started drinking. Jason acted like he didn’t care, but deep down she could see he did care. He felt less, if anyone knew he had brain damage, and she realized that was why he acted the way he did.

She’d told him about her past, which wasn’t much, but he had been interested in everything she told him, and it felt good. He really wanted to get to know her, and she felt the same way about him. She found herself waiting for his call, hoping he would ask her to lunch or if he would come over.

‘’Sam, didn’t you and Jason have a doctors appointment today?’’ Robin asked when she walked into her room, and Sam nodded without even looking at Robin. ‘’What time is that?’’ she asked, and Sam sighed.

‘’I believe it’s in a couple of hours – around 3 I think,’’ she replied, and went back to her book. She’d been reading, but she couldn’t concentrate. Lately, all she could think about was Jason, and she didn’t know why. She wasn’t tired anymore, going in her twentieth week, and she felt a whole lot better. After Jason’s proposal, she’d been sick for another week, and then it had been over just like that.

‘’Do you think you could watch Emma after that? I have to go in to the hospital for a checkup,’’ Robin said softly, and Sam looked up at her.

‘’Is something wrong?’’ she asked concerned about her sister, who just shrugged.

‘’I don’t know, but I haven’t been feeling well lately and I wanted to be sure there’s nothing wrong,’’ she replied, and Sam nodded. ‘’But can you watch Emma for me, because I can’t go if I have no one to watch her,’’ Robin rambled, and Sam nodded again.

‘’Jason and I will watch Emma, Robin, don’t worry,’’ she replied, and Robin sighed of relief.

‘’Just don’t tell Patrick until I know for sure something is wrong, ok?’’ she said, and Sam nodded. ‘’Thanks, Sam, I owe you one,’’ Robin said, and she left the room again. Sam watched her until the door closed, and wondered what was wrong. She wasn’t ready to loose her sister, and she tried not to think of the worst. Sam put her book down, knowing she couldn’t read anymore, and made her way to the living room where Robin sat playing with Emma.

‘’Robin?’’ she said, and waited for Robin to look up, ‘’do you think it could be bad?’’ she asked, thinking about her parents. Her mother had died from cancer, and after that her father had gotten it too, and they had both died way too young.

‘’No, I don’t think so. But I’ve been feeling sick a lot lately, so I thought to get it checked out before it gets out of hand,’’ she replied, and Sam nodded. She rubbed her stomach absentmindedly, and Robin smiled at her. ‘’You look good, Sam,’’ she said softly, and Sam frowned.

‘’I look like a whale,’’ she snorted, and Robin laughed and pulled Sam down. ‘’Geez, I’m never going to get up without you’re help now,’’ Sam joked, and Robin smiled and pulled Sam in her arms.

‘’I don’t have cancer, sis. That I know for sure, so don’t worry, sweetheart,’’ Robin whispered, and Sam nodded and relaxed a little. She sat back against the couch and sighed, holding her hands over her stomach.

‘’I thought about it for a while. And then you said you haven’t been feeling well lately, and now I don’t know anymore. I don’t – maybe I’ll just come with you so you don’t have to be alone, Jason can babysit Emma,’’ she said, but Robin shook her head.

‘’No, no Emma is priority, and I’ll be ok,’’ Robin said, and when Sam wanted to protest Robin stopped her. ‘’Please. I love you, and I want you to take it easy. This baby is going to be your priority too, and you need to understand that, when I hear what it is that’s wrong, I’ll come and tell you,’’ she added, and Sam nodded and took a deep breath.

‘’Ok, ok. You’re right, but I want you to call me when you leave the hospital right away, ok?’’ she said, and Robin nodded. There was a knock on the door and Sam got up with help from Robin, and then made her way to the door. Robin stayed with Emma. As Sam made her way to the door she heard Robin talk to Emma, but she couldn’t hear what she was saying. She opened the door and smiled when she saw Jason.

‘’Hey, I’m sorry but I didn’t know when that appointment would be,’’ he said, and she laughed softly. She stepped aside and took his hand to lead him in, and he smiled at her.

‘’It’s in a couple of hours, but Robin wanted to ask you something,’’ she said just as they walked into the living room. Jason looked at Robin surprised.

‘’I have to run an errand when you and Sam come back from the hospital,’’ Robin said, ‘’and I wanted to ask you if you could help her with Emma. I know you like the practice,’’ she added, and he nodded.

‘’Sure, no problem,’’ he replied, and Sam smiled. He really liked babysitting Emma, and she could see he was great with kids. He’d been babysitting Emma with her a lot lately, and it felt good seeing him with her. ‘’Sam, didn’t you say we could get to know the sex of the baby today?’’ he suddenly asked, and Sam nodded.

‘’Yeah, 20 weeks – they can tell a lot better at this point – do you want you know?’’ she asked, they hadn’t talked about it.

‘’I think I do, but it depends on you because if you don’t want to know, then I don’t want to know either,’’ he told her, and she smiled at him. ‘’But I do think it’s cool to know, you know? Then we can fix the nursery,’’ he told her, and she nodded. She looked down thinking about painting the nursery – she had to find a place of her own first.

‘’I know,’’ she said softly, and he nodded. She could see him look down at her but she didn’t look up, until he held out his hand.

‘’Come on, I want to show you something,’’ he said, and she looked up at him with wide eyes. ‘’Come on, Sam, please,’’ he begged, and she nodded.

‘’I still have to get dressed,’’ she said suddenly, looking down at her sweatpants and tank top. He smiled at her, knowing she didn’t want to go out like this, but he wanted her to come with him – like this.

‘’No, you know where we’re going you need to have something comfortable. I want to show you something, Sam, and I don’t think it’s a good idea to be clean before we go there,’’ he said softly, and Sam looked up at him.

‘’Ok, just take me there. Do you think we still have time before we have to go to the hospital, then? So I can get dressed?’’ she asked, and he nodded and took her hand in his. He waved at Robin and took Sam with him to his car.

‘’I hope you’re going to like it, Sam,’’ he said softly, and she nodded. She didn’t know what he was talking about, but she was nervous about what he was about to show her.

@@@@@@

Jason looked at Sam as she frowned at the house in front of her. He had rented the place but he knew he would buy it eventually, because he really liked it. Even if Sam didn’t like it, he would live there if she didn’t want to. ‘’So, what do you think?’’ he asked her, not telling her what he wanted her to think, because she didn’t know what he wanted her to say.

‘’I – it’s an amazing place, but Jason, what are you getting at?’’ she asked softly, and he smiled brightly at her.

‘’Well, if you want this could be your – our – new house,’’ he told her, and she widened her eyes. ‘’I rented it, but when the time is right we can buy, and if you want you can live here alone – I don’t know what you want but this place, it’s ours,’’ he added, and he could see a smile creep on her face. Then, to his and her surprise, she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him. He held her tightly to his body as he kissed her back, and he felt several feelings he didn’t know and hadn’t felt before. He stopped, breaking the kiss when he had to breath, and he felt Sam lean on him.

‘’Jason…’’ she whispered, but she didn’t continue.

‘’Sam – do you like it?’’ he asked again, his voice hoarse from the kiss and all the emotions running through him.

‘’I’d like to take a look inside,’’ she said softly, and he nodded and led her to the door. He searched for the key and then unlocked the door, and smiled when she made her way in and let go of his hand. She made her way through the hall into the living room, and when Jason stopped behind her she looked up at him with tears in her eyes. ‘’Jason, I love it,’’ she said, and he smiled at her.

‘’I didn’t know what you wanted, if you wanted this, but I wanted this, for us, for you and the baby, you know?’’ he told her, and she nodded and took his hand. She made a round through the house, going from the living room to the kitchen, and then to the bedroom. There were three bedrooms, and she seemed to have chosen the nursery already. ‘’This is going to be the nursery?’’ he asked, and she nodded.

‘’If you like it for the nursery – I do, because it’s light, and big enough for everything you need…’’

‘’I love it,’’ he said, when she didn’t continue, and she smiled up at him. ‘’Sam, I know I did this without telling you, but if you don’t like it – I mean you don’t have to act like you like it,’’ he rambled, and she slapped him playfully on his arm.

‘’I love it, Jason; I’m not acting like I do to keep from hurting you. I know you did this without me knowing, but come on, do you think I would do something like that just to spare your feelings?’’ she asked him, and he shook his head. She would just tell him she didn’t like it if she didn’t, and he smiled at her.

‘’Well, I’m glad you like it,’’ he said softly, and she took his hand and took him with her to the kitchen, where the only chairs in the house were. ‘’What is it?’’ he asked, and she smiled at him.

‘’You said for us, and I agree. I know it’s soon, but I don’t want to live here alone, and I know you hoped, and planned on moving in here. It’s the best thing we could do for the baby,’’ she whispered, and he nodded, somehow he was disappointed she didn’t mention caring for him. He didn’t know where it came from though. ‘’You know, I was just thinking I needed a place to stay, and when you took me here, I know it was for the both of us,’’ she said softly, ‘’I’d like to spend the time with you to get this place ready, and I’m looking forward to live with you,’’ she added with a wink, and he laughed softly.

‘’You – you want me to move in, right? I mean I didn’t actually plan on moving in because I didn’t know what you wanted, and I-‘’ he started, but she interrupted him.

‘’I want to at least try. If it doesn’t work I can always move back to Robin, but we should at least try, right?’’ she asked, and when he nodded she smiled. ‘’I know we know each other well enough to move in, but I also know when two people move in with each other they can – can stop liking each other because they spend to much time together,’’ she rambled, and he smiled.

‘’I know, I lived together with Lucky and in that time I couldn’t stand the guy. It got better when he moved out,’’ Jason replied, and Sam nodded. ‘’He didn’t talk to you anymore, right? He didn’t say stupid things the last time you came over?’’ Jason asked softly, not knowing because she never told him.

‘’No, he didn’t. I think it finally reached him – thank you,’’ she said, and he nodded. He was glad she didn’t have to deal with Lucky anymore, because he had been really angry at Lucky after that night. He’d seen her tears, and he’d seen how hurt she was, after Lucky had left. ‘’You know, I don’t want you to stop being friends with him, and that’s why I’m glad he didn’t say anything anymore because I wouldn’t want him to come over and say stuff like that when the baby is born,’’ she rambled, and he nodded.

‘’I wouldn’t want that either, and he would know he wasn’t welcome here, unless he acted like an adult,’’ he replied, and then he looked at the time, ‘’hey, it’s time to go home for you to shower and get dressed or whatever you wanted to do,’’ he said, and she nodded.

‘’Thank you, Jason, for everything you’ve done for me in the past couple of months,’’ she said softly, and he nodded with a smile. She got up from the chair and walked over to him, and surprised him for the second time today with a hug and a kiss on his cheek this time. They made their way to his car and he drove her home.

Sam watched Jason as they stood in the elevator. He was grinning non-stop, and she wondered what he was thinking about. She didn’t want to break the comfortable silence, so she didn’t. The elevator stopped and the doors opened, and without having to say anything, Jason gestured for her to sit down while he told the nurse they were there. She smiled and sat down, her hand rubbing her stomach. She was showing more and more, and she loved it. The morning sickness was gone, and she wasn’t tired all the time anymore, which made her feel good. She could do something with her day, without having the feeling the only things she did was work, eat and sleep.

‘’So Dr. Lee is ready for us to come in,’’ Jason said, and Sam looked up at him with a smile. He held out his hand and she took it, letting him help getting up. ‘’I’m pretty excited about this appointment. Have you thought about getting to know the sex?’’ he asked as they made their way to the examination room, and she nodded.

‘’I want to know, if you want to know, and you told me you wanted to know if I wanted to know so we’re going to find out what we’re having, Jason!’’ she exclaimed, and he laughed. She was excited, because that way they could start decorating the nursery. The nurse that had led them to the room left, and Sam started moving around the curtain when Jason stopped her.

‘’Sam, do you think it will be a girl? I’d like for it to be a girl, ever since we started babysitting Emma together, I’ve been thinking about having a girl,’’ he said softly, and she smiled.

‘’There’s a 50 percent chance it’d a girl, but I have a pretty good feeling about it, Jason. I’d like for it to be a girl too, but if it’s a boy I don’t mind either. I just want him or her to be healthy and happy,’’ she whispered, and she moved around the curtain. When she had changed into the hospital gown, she sat on the examination table. She swung her legs until Jason stopped her by standing in front of her and taking her hands.

‘’Sam…’’ he whispered, and she looked up at his face to see an expression on his face she couldn’t really read. He leaned forward and she knew he was going to kiss her. Just as his lips were about to touch hers, the door opened and Dr. Lee walked in.

‘’Are you ready to see your baby again?’’ she asked, and Jason took a big step back and stared at the floor, and Sam blushed. She tried not to think about the almost kiss, and nodded with a smile.

‘’Yeah, we’re ready,’’ she replied, and Dr. Lee smiled brightly.

‘’If your baby wants, we can also see the sex – but normally they do tend to show off,’’ she said, and she gestured for Sam to lie down. Sam did as she was told, and lifted the hospital gown. Dr. Lee put some gel on her stomach and moved the wand over her stomach, ‘‘you show nicely, if you don’t mind me saying,’’ Dr. Lee said, and Sam smiled.

‘’I thought the same thing just the other day,’’ Jason butted in. Sam looked at him with surprise running through her, and he smiled brightly at her. Though he only saw her stomach through clothes or when they had an appointment, she loved it when he said stuff like that.

‘’Well, everything looks good, the baby is growing great and the heartbeat is steady, so that’s great – now, you wanted to know the sex?’’ Dr. Lee asked, and Sam looked at Jason, who nodded, and then Sam looked back at Dr. Lee.

‘’We’re dying to know!’’ she said, and Dr. Lee smiled and removed the wand from Sam’s stomach.

‘’Well, I’d like to be the first one to congratulate the happy parents with their baby girl,’’ she said, and Jason grinned. Sam felt the tears burn in her eyes and she smiled at Jason. ‘’Now, here,’’ Dr. Lee said handing Sam a towel to clean her stomach, ‘’all we have to do is the weighing, and we’re done here,’’ Dr. Lee told them, and Sam nodded. Jason took a step toward her and helped her sitting up, and Sam smiled at him.

‘’Well, I’m going to wait outside for that,’’ Jason said, and Sam nodded with a smile. He’d stay until the ultrasound was over, and then step out to give Sam some privacy. She didn’t mind him being there the whole appointment, but she also appreciated his thoughtfulness. Dr. Lee led her to the scale and she stepped up, waiting for Dr. Lee to weigh her.

Jason couldn’t stop grinning. He – Sam and him – were having a baby girl, and he couldn’t stop grinning. After his accident the doctors told him he couldn’t feel anything, and he couldn’t dream or fantasize. Today, and the last couple of months with Sam he had proven them wrong. He had been fantasizing about their baby from the start, and dreaming about a life with Sam and his daughter in his life. ‘’Jason,’’ he heard Sam say behind him, and he turned around and pulled her in his arms for a hug.

‘’Thank you, thank you,’’ he whispered in her ear, and she laughed softly.

‘’Thank you, Jason, for giving me our daughter,’’ she whispered back, and he nodded. He leaned back a little and kissed her gently, feeling her react to his kiss. He knew what it was what he felt with her – desire. He felt it all the time, along with happiness and hope. Hope for a future without people watching him with disgust.

‘’I love you!’’ he said suddenly, and she looked at him a little dazed. Then she smiled brightly.

‘’I love you too,’’ she replied, and she laughed. He knew she didn’t love him like a lover, but maybe he could change that for them. He wanted her, and somehow he wanted her to love him – love him like he wanted to love her, and he felt he was on his way. He had already fallen for her, that he knew for sure.

‘’Now we can start picking out colors for the nursery, right?’’ he said, a little dejected at his revelation. He didn’t know how he could make her fall in love with him.

‘’Yeah, I’m so excited Jason, I want to get started right away – we have a lot to do before she comes and we also have to move in the new house – Jason, I can’t stop thinking about her!’’ she replied, and he smiled gently at her.

‘’I’m thinking about her all the time. I want to know what she looks like – I hope she looks like you and has your sweet personality – but I also want to start, so what do you say we do just that?’’ he said, and she nodded.

‘’I can’t wait for her to be here, Jason,’’ she whispered, and she hugged him again. ‘’I hope she looks like you,’’ she added, and he rolled his eyes, but he smiled. ‘’Yeah, she’d be a heartbreaker if she did, but you’re handsome and I couldn’t…’’ she stopped talking, but smiled at him. He knew what she was about to say, and she didn’t have to say anything.

‘’Let’s go shopping,’’ he said, and she smiled brightly.

@@@@@@

Sam had fallen for him. After he left to give her some privacy with Dr. Lee, she had realized that. She acted like she didn’t; she acted like she loved him like a friend, because she knew he didn’t love her like a lover.

‘’You want to – we can’t today, Jason,’’ she said, and he widened his eyes and slapped himself on his forehead.

‘’You’re right, tomorrow then,’’ he said grinning at her, and she smiled and nodded.

‘’Let’s get Emma and go to the park, so that Robin can go here,’’ she said, and he nodded. He took her hand and led her to his car, and proceeded to drive them back to her home. Sam couldn’t help but staring at him as he drove, and she smiled. She would just have to find a way to make him fall for her.

Chapter 6

1 week later

Sam woke up even more tired than she was when she went asleep, and it was all because Robin still hadn’t told her what was going on. She hadn’t been sleeping well lately, seeing Robin was nervous about something. She wanted to know what it was, and knowing Patrick had already left for work, Sam got out of bed and put on her sweatpants. She threw on one of the shirts Jason gave her – to sleep in – and smiled as she made her way over to Robin’s room. When she had told Jason she couldn’t sleep in her tank tops anymore, he had laughed and handed her his shirt. After that, he had brought a couple more shirts so she could have one on every night. She shook her head, remembering what she had done to thank him, and what he had done.

She had practically jumped him, kissing him and wanting more from him, but he had pushed her away and had looked at her in confusion. She didn’t know what she had thought at that moment, but he didn’t want to be kissed by her and she didn’t know if she could make him fall in love with her if he didn’t want to be. He seemed to be very determined of something. She closed her eyes, not wanting to think about that day, and opened the door to Robin’s room without knocking. Robin wasn’t in her bed anymore, but she could hear something in the bathroom. Sam frowned, and then made her way to the bathroom door.

‘’Robin?’’ she called out, but she didn’t get an answer, and she felt dread come and rush through her as she realized what she heard. Robin was throwing up. She opened the door and stood watching for just a split second before kneeling down behind her and holding her hair back. ‘’Robin…’’ she stopped talking when she heard her voice, it was strangled and she waited until Robin was done and sank back against her.

‘’Sam, it’s nothing, ok?’’ Robin said softly, and Sam felt a tear slip down.

‘’You didn’t tell me what was wrong with you, what… what do you think I will think when I find you here, throwing up and-‘’ she rambled, but Robin held up her hand and she stopped.

‘’I’m pregnant, but Patrick doesn’t know yet, because we didn’t plan on this and Emma is still so young,’’ Robin whispered, and Sam widened her eyes. She opened her mouth to say something when Robin stopped her again, ‘’I’m going to tell him, and I’m sorry I didn’t tell you but I didn’t know what to do,’’ she said softly, and Sam nodded.

‘’I – I was just so worried about you, you didn’t tell me and you – you didn’t – you were sick all the time, and…’’ she stopped, feeling something in her stomach. Robin frowned at her when she placed her hands on her stomach. Sam looked down, and then up at Robin with a smile. ‘’I think – I think I felt her kick, really this time,’’ she whispered, and Robin smiled brightly when Sam took her hand and pressed it on her stomach.

‘’Yep, that was a kick for sure,’’ she said when the baby kicked again, and Sam took a deep breath, feeling a knot in her throat. ‘’Sam, it’s going to happen,’’ Robin whispered, and Sam nodded, wiping away the tears.

‘’I know,’’ she whispered right back, and Robin got up and helped Sam get up, smiling at her.

‘’You’d better tell Jason when he comes over,’’ Robin said, and Sam nodded. ‘’God, it’s getting so real right now, right? I remember when I was pregnant with Emma, when she kicked for the first time I couldn’t breath for a whole day because I wanted to feel it, all the time, and I remember feeling panicked,’’ Robin rambled, and Sam nodded. Robin just described what Sam felt, and she took another deep breath to calm her nerves.

‘’I’m scared, but at the same time I’m so excited to meet her,’’ she whispered, and Robin nodded. ‘’I’m going to get dressed, because Jason and I are going to start on the house later,’’ Sam added, and Robin nodded with a smile. Sam made her way to her room to take a shower and get dressed, to get ready to start on the house.

Jason sighed when there was a knock on the door, knowing he had to call Sam it would get later, because the boys were here. He opened the door and let them in, knowing it didn’t make a difference if he said he had to go somewhere.

‘’Jason my boy, have you dumped Sam already?’’ Lucky asked, and Jason glared at him.

‘’One more comment like that, Lucky, and you’re a dead man,’’ he growled, and Lucky frowned.

‘’What the fuck is up with you, Jason. You’re not the same Jason I got to know anymore, and I don’t like it,’’ he snapped, and Jason shrugged.

‘’If you don’t like it, just get the fuck out,’’ Jason replied calmly, finally seeing Lucky the way he was. Lucky was the biggest party animal Jason knew, and he didn’t like it. Jason had changed, knowing he was going to be a father, but that didn’t mean his friends changed.

‘’Lucky, can you please stop this, because I don’t want Jason to kick you out,’’ Sonny said softly, and Lucky growled and walked out himself. Jason just turned around as the door slammed close, and he looked at Sonny.

‘’You know, I’ve tolerated him because he’s my friend, but he’s getting out of hand with his insults to Sam and I don’t want him to back the fuck off,’’ he snapped, and Sonny just nodded, still holding Carly’s hand.

‘’Jason, did you hear from Sam?’’ Carly asked, and Jason frowned and shook his head.

‘’Not since a couple of days ago – we agreed to start with the house today, cleaning and stuff – she can’t be in there when I paint but she insisted on helping me,’’ he said with a smile, thinking back on that conversation.

‘’Well, I saw her last night and she looked tired – and by the way, Sonny, Nickolas and me were here to offer you help with the house,’’ Carly said, and Jason smiled at his friends.

‘’I’d like that – I appreciate it,’’ he said, and Sonny nodded.

‘’Yeah, you know, we knew you were planning on doing something there today, and I’d also like to get to know Sam more. Nickolas too, I believe,’’ Sonny said, turning to Nick.

‘’Yeah. I kind of feel like a shitbag acting like that when I met her,’’ he said looking down, and Jason nodded.

‘’I don’t think she’s mad at you for that. Maybe she doesn’t like the way you acted when she came home that time you were there,’’ he said, and Nick nodded. ‘’Well, I’m going to pick up Sam, you can follow me or you can go there for yourself but I think it’s going to take some time for Sam to get ready,’’ he said with a wink, and Sonny and Nickolas nodded.

‘’We’ll follow you, we also have some stuff you’d like, and if you don’t Carly and I are going to bring it to the shelter,’’ Sonny said, and Jason nodded.

‘’Thanks you guys, I really appreciate it,’’ he said, and then he grinned. ‘’Let’s go,’’ he said, and everyone followed him out to the cars.

@@@@@@

Sam waited for Jason to arrive, and when he did she widened her eyes at seeing two cars stop in front of the house too. She opened the door and was surprised to see Carly, Sonny and Nickolas standing behind Jason. ‘’Hey, what’s all this?’’ she asked, and Jason smiled at her and kissed her on her cheek.

‘’Well, I have the best friends in the whole world because these three are going to help us with the house,’’ he told her, and she smiled at him.

‘’That’s – thank you guys, I know I really appreciate it,’’ she said, and she smiled at Sonny and Carly. Even Nickolas got a smile, and he smiled back at her.

‘’Are you ready to go?’’ Jason asked, and when Sam nodded she could see the surprised look on his face. ‘’You really are ready?’’ he asked, and she smiled.

‘’Yeah, Jason, I’m ready,’’ she said, and he nodded. She saw him staring at her, but she didn’t think any of it. Not until Carly spoke up.

‘’Sam, what’s wrong?’’ she asked as they made their way to the car, and Sam frowned. ‘’I mean you look like you haven’t slept in days, and I don’t mean that in a bad way, I just-‘’

‘’No I didn’t sleep really good this week because I was worried about my sister,’’ Sam replied, and Carly nodded and sighed. ‘’What did you think, Carly? Something was wrong with the baby? I would’ve told Jason about that,’’ Sam said softly, and Carly nodded.

‘’I know, I was just worried about you, that’s all,’’ she said, and she moved to Sonny’s car. Nick was already in his car and Jason was waiting for her to step in, holding the door for her. She smiled at him and nodded her thanks, and then she stepped in and he closed the door behind her. She watched as he walked to the driver’s seat, and she smiled at him again when he stepped in.

‘’Maybe you can just rest a little when we get there,’’ he said softly, and he started the car.

‘’No, Jason I want to help,’’ she protested, but he just looked at her.

‘’Then take it easy, because I don’t want you over doing it,’’ he said, and she nodded. She was touched that he was concerned about her, but it made her feel sad to think he didn’t want more.

‘’I will, I’ll take it easy. I just want to help, Jason,’’ she said softly, and he looked at her and nodded before turning his gaze back on the road. ‘’Jason?’’ she asked, and he looked at her quickly to let her know he heard her. ‘’I want to – would you like to go out to dinner with me?’’ she asked, and he grinned.

‘’I’d love to, but isn’t that my question?’’ he asked, and she looked down and sighed. When she opened her mouth to say something he added, ‘’I think it’s a good idea, when do you want to go out for dinner?’’ he asked, and she shrugged.

‘’I don’t know, I just thought I’d ask,’’ she said, and she paused for a moment, ‘’I thought I’d ask you out on a date,’’ she said, softly, and he looked at her. She knew he didn’t expect that, but she didn’t expect the look on his face. He looked happy, and full of hope.

‘’A date?’’ he asked her, and she nodded. He grinned, ‘’yeah, I’d like that.’’

‘’Good,’’ she said, ‘’I just – you know,’’ she said, and he grinned, then he let go of the wheel and grabbed her hand.

‘’Sam, you know I already care about you, and I think you care about me too, but I’d like to try – maybe there can be more,’’ he said softly, and she widened her eyes. ‘’Yeah, I figured you didn’t expect that,’’ he said, and he let go of her hand.

‘’No, I didn’t, because – I thought you didn’t want more – but Jason, I want to try too,’’ she whispered, and he grinned at her again. He stopped when they got to the house, and Sam smiled brightly thinking about living here. She could see the baby playing around in the garden, and she could see herself working there. She looked at Jason and he winked at her, just as his friends stepped out of their cars. Sonny, Jason and Carly walked in the house, but Nickolas took Sam apart.

‘’Sam, I’d like to talk to you for a minute,’’ he said, and she nodded. She didn’t know if she liked him or not, but he had been really nice to her lately. ‘’I’d like to apologize for my behavior – when we met and the last time – with Lucky,’’ he said, and he looked down.

‘’Nickolas, look at me,’’ she said, and he did. She could see he was sorry, and she smiled at him, ‘’it’s ok. Thank you, though. You didn’t have to do this, but I appreciate it,’’ she told him, and he smiled.

‘’Thank you,’’ he said, and then he looked around, ‘’can I – can I hug you?’’ he asked, and she nodded and stepped in his embrace. ‘’I really think you’re good – the best – for Jason,’’ he said softly, and she smiled and nodded.

‘’Let’s go in,’’ she said as she stepped back, and when they walked inside she saw Sonny looking at her.

‘’Can I get a hug too?’’ he asked, smiling the dimples smile, and she shrugged.

‘’Why not, I’m giving them away right?’’ she joked, and Sonny hugged her too. Jason grinned, and Sam could see he was glad she got along with his friends. Carly came to Sam and hugged her too, and Sam smiled brightly, feeling the tears in her eyes as she realized they’d accepted her. ‘’So, where do we start?’’ she asked, and Jason took her hand and led her to the nursery.

‘’Here,’’ he told her, ‘’we start here, while Sonny, Carly and Nickolas work in the living room,’’ he told her, ‘’I don’t want them touching this,’’ he added, and she smiled.

‘’Our first project,’’ she said, and they began cleaning the room.

@@@@@@

He was in heaven, working with Sam. She made it easy, and they worked as a team. She cleaned where she didn’t have to bend down, and he did where he could, standing on the ladder and kneeling down on the ground. They removed the wallpaper and the linoleum, because they had plans for other decoration. ‘’Wow, we did good,’’ he said as he looked around. The room was ready, and she smiled at him and rubbed her back.

‘’Yeah, we did,’’ she replied, and he frowned at her.

‘’Are you ok?’’ he asked, and she nodded.

‘’Yeah, just a little stiff,’’ she told him, and he nodded and made his way over to her. He started massaging her back, and she moaned. ‘’Oh, that feels good,’’ she whispered, and he laughed softly.

‘’Come on, let’s go to the kitchen so you can sit down for a while,’’ he said, and she nodded and followed him to the kitchen. He walked over to the fridge and surprised her with a can of orange juice, and she smiled.

‘’I didn’t know you had stuff here already,’’ she said, and she opened the can. She took a swallow, and almost coughed it out.

‘’Sam! What is it?’’ he asked, concerned when he saw her hands go to her stomach, and she gestured for him to come.  He did, not sure what to expect, but she grabbed his hand and pressed it into her stomach.

‘’Can you feel it?’’ she asked softly, and he shook his head, a little disappointed. ‘’Wait – there is it, did you feel it?’’ she asked, and he nodded. There it was again, the baby kicking, and he looked at her in awe. ‘’I felt it this morning – I felt it before, but I didn’t know for sure, but now I am and – don’t you think it’s amazing? She’s in there, alive and kicking, and it feels so good,’’ she rambled, and he nodded, still no words to say.

‘’Hey, what’s happening in there?’’ he heard Sonny say, and he looked up to see him standing next to Sam. ‘’Is the baby kicking?’’ Sonny asked, and Jason just nodded.

‘’Yeah, I felt it this morning when I was with Robin, and I wanted Jason to feel too but then I didn’t feel it for some time,’’ Sam said, and Jason looked at her still in awe and speechless, ‘’and now I’m just sitting here and I feel it,’’ she added, and Jason smiled.

‘’Thank you,’’ he said, and she looked at him in surprise, but smiled. ‘’How are things going there?’’ he asked Sonny, who smiled.

‘’The living room is done, we cleaned and took out the wallpaper and floor – and Nickolas went to the bathrooms with Carly, while I went to see how you were doing,’’ Sonny said, ‘’and then I saw you were done with the nursery,’’ he added, and Sam nodded.

‘’We work well together,’’ she said looking at Jason, who smiled. ‘’Why don’t we start in the kitchen?’’ she asked Jason, and he nodded.

‘’Sonny can help us,’’ he said, and he smiled at Sam. Sam nodded, and she got up. ‘’Wait, just drink your soda first, we don’t have to rush,’’ he said, and she nodded. She drank her soda, and put it down on the table.

‘’Ready, now lets get to work,’’ she said, and they did.

@@@

Jason made a round through the house, looking at all the rooms, and was surprised everything was done. All they had to do now was paint, put new wallpaper up and choose something for the floor. Sam had been thinking about plywood, and he agreed. He walked back to the kitchen where his friends and Sam sat, drinking some soda, and Sonny was drinking a beer.

‘’Well, after all Jason and I found our matches that night,’’ Sonny said, and Jason frowned. ‘’You know, I found Carly and I love her deeply, and I know she feels the same way, so now it’s just up to you and Jason to try,’’ Sonny added, and Sam smiled.

‘’I know, we are going to, Sonny, but I don’t know what will come of…’’ her voice faded when she saw Jason standing there, and she smiled at him.

‘’What did you think about tonight? Dinner, just the two of us?’’ he asked, and she nodded.

‘’I’d love that,’’ she said, and she got up. Jason could see she was tired, and he shook his head, feeling stupid for asking her out tonight.

‘’We can-‘’ he started, but she interrupted him.

‘’No, I want to, and we have to eat right? We don’t have to go anywhere fancy, just the two of us is great,’’ she said, and he nodded with a smile.

‘’See you guys, come on, get out of our house,’’ Jason said, and he ushered all of them out. Sam laughed as he grabbed her hand. ‘’Are you sure? We can also go home and eat something there,’’ he said, and she nodded.

‘’I’m sure, I want to go to Kelly’s – I’ve been craving their food – what about you?’’ she asked, and he nodded. He didn’t care where they went; he wanted to eat dinner with her.

‘’Kelly’s is good, and the next time we’ll go somewhere fancy,’’ he told her, and she shrugged.

‘’I don’t mind eating a burger and fries, I mean if the food is good and the company is good, what is there to complain about?’’ she asked, and he smiled. He helped her get in the car and drove them to Kelly’s.

@@@@@@

Sam stared at Jason and frowned. ‘’So, you know what happened last week with Robin right? She had to go to the hospital?’’ she asked, and he nodded. She’d decided to tell him, because it was one of the reasons she was tired and didn’t sleep well. ‘’Well, she never told me what happened and I was worried about her you know, that’s why I didn’t sleep, but this morning I found her throwing up,’’ she told him, and he frowned.

‘’Is she ok? Did she tell you what’s wrong?’’ he asked her, concerned about her sister, and she nodded.

‘’Yeah, she told me she’s pregnant, but she didn’t want to tell anyone yet because she didn’t tell Patrick, and because Emma is still so young she doesn’t know what to do,’’ she said looking at her empty plate. He took her hand, and smiled at her.

‘’It’s going to be ok, because when she tells Patrick she’ll know what to do,’’ he said, and she nodded.

‘’Jason, I’m glad I have you in my life. You always know what to say, and I love you for that,’’ she said, and then she widened her eyes. It had just slipped out, but she wouldn’t take it back, because it was how she felt.

‘’I love you too,’’ he whispered, and he stood to his feet and took her with him. Then he leaned forward and kissed her gently, pouring everything in the kiss. There, in the middle of the diner, they sealed their love, proving to each other how much love there was.

‘’I love you,’’ she repeated, and he smiled. Then he kissed her again, and promised to himself never to let her go. Just as she promised herself the same thing.

Chapter 7

6 weeks later

Jason looked around and smiled. What he saw was the best place he had ever seen. Sam and him had been working non-stop, when she could she would help and when the guys – Nickolas and Sonny – could, they helped also. The place was done, and it was perfect. The nursery was pink, and even though he hated pink, he loved the room. The floor was a nice light color and he loved it. Crème colors all over, also around the house. As he made a round through the house, he couldn’t stop smiling. Sam and him had decided to share the master bedroom, even though they hadn’t made love after they confessed their feelings, she thought it was the right thing to do. He felt the same way, sleeping with her in his arms was something he was looking forward to. He had rented his penthouse out, because it was his and he didn’t want to sell it, for when something happened. He didn’t count on it, but he still didn’t like the feeling of having nowhere to go.

‘’Is it alright? I mean I love it, but you have-‘’ he heard Sam start to ramble behind him, and he pulled her against him as tightly as he could. Her belly was getting bigger every day, and he loved to see her pregnant.

‘’It’s perfect, Sam. I love it and I know I’m going to love living here,’’ he replied, and she smiled up at him and laid her head on his chest. He loved it when she did that, seeing as she was small and he could place his chin on top of her head. So he did just that, and held her close. ‘’We move in right away, right? I mean you have all your stuff in here?’’ he asked her, and she nodded.

‘’I have everything I need, and when I need more I can just go to the store. I still need some clothes for our daughter,’’ she said, and she was silent for a moment. ‘’I love saying that. Our daughter,’’ she whispered, and he smiled.

‘’I love hearing it too,’’ he replied, and she laughed softly. ‘’Our daughter,’’ he said softly, and he smiled again. He did love saying it, and he loved hearing it. He never thought he would be here with Sam. If someone had told him he would be here right now, he would’ve laughed and said they were crazy.

‘’You know,’’ she suddenly said, and she took a little step back to look at him, ‘’a couple of months ago if someone had said I would be standing here, pregnant and in love, I would’ve laughed at them and waved it off. Now, standing here, I can’t imagine something else,’’ she told him, and he smiled.

‘’I was just thinking the same thing,’’ he told her, ‘’and I think we both know we didn’t expect to be here. But now I don’t want it any other way,’’ he added, and he kissed her gently. Ever since they told each other they loved another, they had been making out like teenagers, never going further and it sometimes frustrated Jason, but he could understand. Right now Sam was reacting to his kiss differently, and he pressed on. Deepening the kiss by gently biting her lip and licking it, she opened her mouth and he pressed his tongue inside her mouth.

‘’Jason…’’ she moaned breathlessly, and he looked down at her, also breathless. ‘’I need you,’’ she whispered, and he nodded. He kissed her again; glad they were alone in the house, and moved toward the bedroom. They had been standing right in front of it, looking at the nursery, and when he felt her knees hit the bed, he gently pushed her down.

‘’Are you sure?’’ he asked her, and she nodded, not being able to form the words he wanted to hear. It was enough though, and he kissed her again, slowly pressing kisses on her face to her neck, to the spot where her neck went to her shoulder, and she threw her head to the side to give him more access.

‘’We already made a baby, so I can’t get pregnant anymore,’’ she joked, and he laughed softly. He kissed her again, moving his hand down to the border of her shirt, and pulling it up. She sat up helping him, and then he turned them around so she was on top. They couldn’t be close enough to each other, and he wanted to be closer. She smiled at him as he moved and made her straddle him, and he smiled back.

‘’This better?’’ he asked her, and she nodded. She lifted his shirt off of him and he held up his arms to help her. ‘’You know I’ve been waiting for this moment,’’ he whispered when his shirt was off, and she smiled at him. She kissed his chest, and moved down to his stomach. He moaned, loving the feeling of her hot lips on him, her cool hands everywhere. She had the control, and he loved it.

‘’You taste sweet,’’ she whispered, and he laughed. She unbuttoned his jeans and he lifted his hips so she could slide them off, and she moved them off along with his boxers. He stared at her, lost in the moment, and he smiled when she looked up at him with surprise on her face. ‘’Wow,’’ she exclaimed, and he frowned, ‘’you’re – I mean you really want this don’t you?’’ she asked, and he laughed and nodded.

‘’I want you so badly, it hurts,’’ he told her, and she smiled at him and pulled off her own jeans. She was wearing maternity clothes, and he never thought it could be that sexy. She rolled off of him, lying on her side beside him, and he turned on his side and started kissing her again. He wanted to be even closer, so he pulled her against him and pressed his hips against hers.

‘’Jason…’’ she moaned, and he removed her bra with one hand while flicking her nipples with the other. ‘’Oohh,’’ she groaned, and he smiled at her. ‘’Jason you don’t – you don’t know what you’re doing to me,’’ she stuttered as he moved his mouth to her nipples, and he smiled while still having it in his mouth. She couldn’t stop touching him, and moved her hands up and down his arm and chest.

‘’You make – make my body sing,’’ Jason said stuttering when she grazed her hand over his cock. ‘’Oohh, Sam what are you doing to me?’’ he asked her, and she smiled and kissed him again. He couldn’t help it, he wanted her right now, and he started moving her panties down. ‘’Sam, please,’’ he whispered, and she looked up at him. He started moving his had to her clit, and he rubbed it with his thumb while moving his fingers to her opening. ‘’You’re wet for me,’’ he moaned, and she nodded, her eyes falling closed.

‘’I am,’’ she simply said, and he sighed. He pulled her on top if him, because he couldn’t lie on her. She sat on his hips, and he moaned when he could feel her wetness on his cock. ‘’Jason, I want you inside of me,’’ she told him, and he nodded. She lifted her hips, and took his cock in her hands leading it to her opening. She watched his face as he looked at her. When she smiled and sank down, impaling herself with him, he closed his eyes. She didn’t move, for a long time, and he looked at her again to see she was in the moment completely. ‘’You feel so good inside of me,’’ she whispered, and he rolled his eyes in ecstasy when she moved. But they she stopped again, and he looked at her.

‘’You feel so good, Sam, please,’’ he whispered, and he grabbed her hips and helped her. She started moving and soon found her rhythm, and he followed. He pressed his hips forward, trying to get inside of her deeper, and she changed her position a little and he moaned when he trusted even deeper. ‘’Damn,’’ he moaned, and she laughed softly, a husky laugh, and he felt himself go closer to the edge. Suddenly, he felt her muscles contract and h knew she was close, very close to having her orgasm, and he started moving faster, wanting to come with her.

‘’Jason!’’ she screamed, and he felt her go over the edge. It didn’t take him long to follow her, and he screamed out her name. She fell on top of him, but rolled off of him right away. They didn’t say anything for a long time, needing the time to catch their breath. Soon he heard her breathing steady, and he looked down to see her sleeping peacefully. He smiled, and closed his eyes and tried to sleep too.

Sam woke up an hour later in Jason’s arms, and she smiled. He was still asleep, but she had to pee, so she moved out of the bed careful not to wake him and threw on his shirt. She went to the bathroom, did he business and washed her hands before going back to the bedroom. She looked around, happy they could finally move in. She loved the place, and it was like she always dreamed of. A garden – she still had to work on that – and the house was big enough for all of them. She knew Jason’s friends would come over a lot, and she didn’t even mind. The last 6 weeks they had been nice to her and she didn’t have a problem with them coming by. She didn’t want to wake Jason, so she decided to go to the kitchen and have something to drink. As she moved through the house, she couldn’t stop smiling. Ever since Jason and she had confessed to loving each other, they had been inseparable. He would come over to her place when they weren’t at the house cleaning up and decorating, and she would come over to his place. Lucky hadn’t been there since they started cleaning their new house, and Sam felt better going over. She could be herself with Sonny and Nickolas, and Carly had become a close friend of hers after everything that happened.

She opened the fridge and smiled as she grabbed a can of soda. Jason didn’t like it when she drank too much soda, but she held to her word and drank one can of soda a day. She made her way to the living room and sank down on the couch, loving the softness of it. She didn’t put on the T.V, because she didn’t mind the quiet for a moment.

‘’Hey, where’d you go,’’ she heard Jason call out from the bedroom, and she laughed.

‘’I’m in the living room,’’ he called back, and the baby kicked her. ‘’I’m sorry baby, I shouldn’t yell right,’’ she talked to her baby all the time, but she still didn’t know a name. Jason had been suggesting names but she didn’t like any of them, and when she suggested a name he didn’t like them either. She could hear his phone ring in the bedroom and sighed, knowing he would have to go away again, and closed her eyes.

‘’Sam,’’ he called out, and then he came to the living room. She opened her eyes and could see something bad happened, and she frowned. ‘’I have to go – my grandmother – she just died,’’ he said softly, and she widened her eyes and pushed herself off the couch.

‘’Are you ok? I’m so sorry Jason,’’ she whispered, and she moved toward him. He took a step back, and she looked down feeling hurt because he didn’t want her to touch him.

‘’I’m going to go over there – I need to go there,’’ he stuttered, never looking at her, but telling her. She couldn’t come.

‘’Do you want me to come?’’ she asked, even though she knew the answer. He shook his head, and she felt the tears burn in her eyes. ‘’It’s ok, I have to get to work anyway,’’ she lied, and he nodded. They both moved at the same time, as he stepped to the bathroom and she stepped to him.

‘’I’m going to take a shower and I’ll be gone,’’ he said, and he turned around and walked away. She sighed and moved to the guest bathroom, because she did have to go to work, she’d promised she’d come in for a fitting today, but she never told her what time she would come. Turning on the shower she pulled off his shirt, and stepped in. The hot water relaxed her but only a little, and she washed herself quickly. She wasn’t fast enough though, hearing the door slam when she turned off the water, and she felt a tear slip on her face. She dried off and got dressed in something baggy because she still hadn’t told her boss she was pregnant, and walked out of the bathroom. She pulled her hair up in a high knot, and sighed as she grabbed the keys from her car. She closed the door and locked it behind her and made her way to her car, not knowing what Jason wanted with her. He shut off completely in a matter of minutes, and she didn’t know what to do to make him talk to her. She grunted as she started the car and drove to her work.

@@@

Sam widened her eyes when she heard what the dresser said. ‘’Come on, lets get something to hide that belly,’’ she said, and Sam closed her eyes and cursed. Of course they would see she was pregnant – she was small and her belly was getting bigger every time.

‘’You know,’’ she simply stated, and the woman nodded with a smile.

‘’Not only do you see it in your face, but also you’re glowing, Sam, so you can’t hide the fact that you’re pregnant. Now, come on,’’ she said, ‘’let’s try this on,’’ and she showed her a dress. A black dress that stretched, and Sam nodded.

‘’I have to tell him then,’’ Sam said softly, and just then someone came to her and told her Mr. Young wanted to speak with her for a moment if she had time. She nodded, ‘’I’ll be right back,’’ she said to the woman, and she made her way to her boss’ office. When she knocked, he called her in and she opened the door.

‘’You know I’m just going to say it – I know you’re pregnant and I don’t like that you didn’t tell me before,’’ he said, and she sighed and looked down. She was going to get fired right now, she just knew it. ‘’But it’s ok, I can’t fire you so that’s off the table. I want to know how far along you are and if you’re able to stay here as long as possible,’’ he added, and she looked up and widened her eyes in surprise.

‘’Thank you, and I’ll work as long as I can,’’ she said softly, and he nodded and waved her away. She was used to him, so she just walked out of the office without feeling bad, and she smiled. Just then her phone rang and she picked it up. ‘’Robin?’’ she asked, knowing it was her sister calling.

‘’Sam, can you please come over to the hospital,’’ she heard Patrick say, and she gasped, ‘’Robin is sick and I don’t know what’s going on but she may be losing the baby,’ he added, and Sam breathed in sharply.

‘’I’m on my way,’’ she said, and she heard Patrick mumble a goodbye and disconnected the line, as she quickly went to her car. She didn’t even say goodbye to the dresser, because she didn’t even think about it at the moment.

Jason made his way home and was surprised when Sam wasn’t home yet. She’d told him earlier she didn’t have to stay in long, and she hadn’t called him to tell him where she was. He was worried about her; he wanted to talk to her about the way he acted before he left. He felt guilty, because he had seen the hurt on her face when he shut down, and he hadn’t meant to hurt her with his actions. He took his phone out of his pocket, deciding to call Sam, when his phone rang. He saw it was Sam, and took the call, ‘’Sam, where are you?’’ he asked right away, and suddenly he heard her sob.

‘’Jason, I’m at the hospital – something happened with Robin and I need to be there. So you know where I am,’’ she said, and he widened his eyes.

‘’Do you want me to-‘’ he started, but she interrupted him.

‘’No, you don’t have to come,’’ she said, and he could hear a snap in her voice. She was mad at him over what happened earlier, and he decided to just go there. She needed him. ‘’I’ll be home later,’’ she said, and she disconnected the line. He cursed, knowing she needed him but acted like she didn’t, and went back to his car. He would just show up and see what she needed, and if she wanted him to go, he would go.

@@@

Jason stepped off the elevator and saw Sam right away. He made his way over to her and she glared up at him when she saw him. ‘’What are you doing here? I told you I didn’t want you to come over,’’ she said, and he nodded.

‘’I thought you needed me,’’ he said, and she snorted.

‘’I don’t need you to hold my hand, Jason.’’

‘’I know, I just wanted to be here for you, and stop acting like you don’t care because I know you’re angry because of the way I acted before,’’ he snapped, finally done with her behavior.

‘’Yeah, I am, because every time I feel bad or something, you get to hear it, and now you shut me out! I don’t need that, Jason, and I don’t need you. If you don’t think you want this, you just walk away,’’ she said, and he frowned.

‘’I never said-‘’

‘’No, but you’re actions speak for you, Jason. Just now, you got a phone call telling you your grandmother died and you pushed me away, and I don’t want that, so I’m just going to say it – you either want to be in this relationship, or you don’t,’’ she snapped, and he nodded. He didn’t care anymore.

‘’Fine. I’ll contact you about the baby every week – see you,’’ he said, slipping back in his old behavior. He was going to call the guys and ask them if they wanted to go out.

@@@@@@

Sam stared at his back until she couldn’t anymore, and that’s when the tears came. She’d been unreasonable, and she never expected him to walk away. She’d been stupid to let him walk away, and she wiped at her tears angry with herself. She looked up when she heard someone approach her, and she smiled at Patrick. ‘’Did they tell you what happened?’’ she asked him, and he nodded.

‘’Nothing’s wrong, the baby didn’t die, but she was dehydrated and she fainted, because she had been throwing up so much,’’ he told her, and she nodded. She remembered when she came over the other day how much she had been throwing up in the two hours Sam was there. She could see the relief on Patrick’s face and smiled.

‘’That’s great news,’’ she said softly, and he nodded.

‘’What about you?’’ he asked, ‘’how are you feeling? I’m sorry I called you like that but I knew you wanted to be there for her. Where is Jason, didn’t you say you’d call him?’’ he asked all the questions at once, and she laughed.

‘’I’m ok, really. I called Jason and he – well, he was here for a moment and then I sent him away. I didn’t want him here,’’ she said, and she looked down at her hands. She knew she’d been stupid, and she couldn’t stop thinking about what would happen now, but she also knew Patrick would understand. ‘’He shut me out, pushed me away just before, he had heard his grandmother died, and he just pushed me away. I was angry, Patrick, and I told him that I didn’t want him here, but he came anyway, and we got into a fight,’’ she told him, and he nodded.

‘’About him shutting you out, right?’’ he asked, and she nodded.

‘’He told me he wanted to be here for me, and because I was still angry I told him to choose – be in the relationship all the way, or go, and he choose to go,’’ she said, tears once again running down her face. She hated what she had said to him, and she hated that she had given him a choice. ‘’I know he was here, he was in the relationship a 100 percent, but I didn’t know what to feel anymore and I was here worried about Robin…’’

‘’I know, Sam. Maybe you just need to give him some time, call him tomorrow. You can stay with us for tonight if you want,’’ he said, and she nodded.

‘’Thank you, but I think I’ll just go home and wait for him – I don’t think he went home straight away,’’ she said, and just then the doctor came and told them they could see Robin. Patrick helped her stand and they made their way over to the room Robin was, and Sam stayed a little in the background until Patrick had hugged and kissed her. Then she made her way over to her sister and kissed her cheek.

‘’Sam, what is it?’’ Robin asked right away, and Sam shook her head.

‘’It’s not important, I’ll tell you when you feel better ok?’’ she said, and when Robin shrugged he turned to Patrick, ‘’I’m going to go home now, I need to – you know,’’ she said, and he nodded. Sam waved at Robin feeling a little guilty, but she needed to be alone. She needed to wait for Jason at home.

@@@

It had been a couple of hours since Sam had come home, and she lay in bed – alone. Jason hadn’t come home, and she knew he wouldn’t be coming home tonight. She felt the tears slid down her face and wiped them away. She would just call him. So she grabbed her phone and dialed his number, and then waited for him to pick up.

‘’Yeah, say it,’’ he slurred over the phone, and hearing his voice, knowing he was drunk, made her cry even harder.

‘’Jason, are you-‘’ she started, but he interrupted her.

‘’No I’m not coming home you didn’t want me to come home,’’ he stuttered out, and then he sighed harshly, ‘’you still the same,’’ he added, and then he disconnected the line. She took a deep breath, feeling her eyes sting, and then she felt the baby kick.

‘’I think it’s the best thing – the best thing to do right now, baby girl, is give him some time. I don’t want him treating me like that,’’ she said softly, rubbing her stomach. She didn’t even realize the tears started running again until she felt them slide down her cheek and into her ears. She wiped them away and turned on her side, trying to get some sleep. She knew she wouldn’t.

Chapter 8

 3 weeks later

Jason cursed and stumbled out of the club. This was the second time in three weeks he drank to much – he hadn’t been drinking from the moment he had found out Sam was pregnant. Thinking about Sam made him feel even guiltier, and he wondered if she was still awake. He had tried to call her a couple of times in the past three weeks, but she never answered the phone. He had seen her a couple of times, when she was at the hospital and when she was just walking on the street, and he couldn’t help but notice how beautiful she looked pregnant. He ruined everything by walking away, but he didn’t understand why she didn’t want to talk to him. He’d been wrong, but she had also been wrong about giving him an ultimatum.

Though he wanted her to forgive him, she had to get forgiveness too. He decided it was time for a visit, and he nodded to himself. He held up his hand and called for a cab, which stopped in front of him. ‘’I need you to go there,’’ he said, handing him a paper. Sam had stayed in the house, because he had moved back to his penthouse, and Lucky had moved in with him. He knew he was just doing that to make Sam angrier than she already was, at the moment he didn’t really care. He regretted it now, but he couldn’t kick Lucky out.

‘’We’re here sir,’’ the cabbie said, and Jason stumbled out of the cab and walked over to the front door of the house. He missed the place, even if he hadn’t really lived there yet, and he wanted to go back. He knocked, but there wasn’t any answer. He rummaged through his pockets and took out his keys; searched for the key he needed and inserted it. It took him some time to open the door, but he did and he walked in closing the door behind him. Even in the dark he could see the place was still the same, the only difference was – now that Sam had lived here for three weeks – it had become even cozier. He stumbled to the bedroom, knowing Sam was there, and tried to be quiet.

@@@@@@

Sam woke up with a start when she heard something in the house. Her heart pounded in her chest and Lila – she had decided on the name when Jason’s grandmother Lila had passed away – was kicking up a storm. She rubbed a hand over her stomach, ‘’it’s ok, Lila, I’m just going to…’’ her voice faded as she struggled to get out of bed – everything seemed to be more difficult lately – and stood to her feet. She knew she had to be careful, she didn’t want anything to happen to her baby, but she had to see what was going on. She didn’t know what she was going to do when she saw someone break in, but she could at least look. She opened the door to the hall quietly, glad for the silent door. She remembered the door to her room at Robin’s hadn’t been silent. She took a deep breath and moved toward the living room, but she didn’t see anything. Just as she was about to turn around and make a round through the house, she felt someone grab her from behind and she screamed. A hand slipped over her mouth and all she could do was stand there, she didn’t want anything to happen to Lila, and if that meant working with the person, she would do it.

‘’Geez Sam, stop it,’’ she heard him slur, and she stopped struggling and felt her body go weak when she realized it was Jason.

‘’God damn it Jason! You scared the shit out of me,’’ she snapped, and turned around and pushed him away. ‘’What are you doing here, drunk?’’ she asked him, and he shrugged. She made her way to the lamp and flicked it on, and she could see Jason’s red eyes and lazy expression. She’d missed him, but she wouldn’t tell him that. She would never tell him she had missed him, because he would just use it against her.

‘’I wanted to talk, and you didn’t – you never answered any of my calls,’’ he said, and she sighed.

‘’Come on, I’m going to make you some coffee so we can talk – so you can talk,’’ she added, and he nodded. He followed her to the kitchen and she could feel his eyes on her, all over her body. A chill went through her back, but she choose to ignore it. ‘’What were you thinking walking in like that – I was scared to death!’’ she snapped again, still feeling her heartbeat in her throat.

‘’I wasn’t-‘’

‘’No, it’s obvious you weren’t thinking, stupid question,’’ she muttered, interrupting him. She made some coffee and waited, in silence, for it to be ready. When it was, she placed a mug of coffee in front of Jason; black, because that was the way he liked it, and sat down with a sigh. She could feel her back start to ache, but she didn’t say anything.

‘’You’ve been avoiding me,’’ he said, and she nodded. There wasn’t any use in denying the obvious. ‘’And I’m doing all kinds of stupid things – but you don’t even notice,’’ he added, and she just sat there. She noticed alright. She knew he had been going out almost every night, and she knew he didn’t even drink that much as he used to. Only on a couple occasions he had been drinking too much. Like tonight. She also knew Lucky had moved in with him again, and she didn’t like it one bit, but it wasn’t her life.

‘’So you want me to notice you, huh? You think you’re doing something good?’’ she asked, and he nodded. ‘’You really think that?’’ she asked, getting angrier by the minute.

‘’I want you to love me like I love you, and I want you to know I’m sorry for shutting you out earlier but I didn’t mean it like that. Sam, you’ve got to believe me,’’ he said, and she nodded.

‘’I believe you’re sorry for shutting me out,’’ she replied, leaving out the rest on purpose, and he nodded. ‘’But what did you think to get when you took Lucky in? What did you think I would do when I found out you’d been drinking again, and going clubbing again?’’

‘’Maybe you would see what a good influence you had on me?’’ he asked grinning like a child, and she closed her eyes feeling the tears build up. She rubbed her stomach when Lila kicked, and Jason looked at her intensely. ‘’How is she?’’ he asked softly, and she looked up, surprised at the sudden change.

‘’She’s fine,’’ she whispered, feeling a tear roll down her cheek. She wiped it away quickly, but he had seen it.

‘’I’m sorry Sam, I’m so sorry,’’ he stuttered, and she shrugged. ‘’No you don’t – don’t do that. Don’t act like you don’t care because I know you do. I wanted to talk to you because I wanted to make it up, I don’t understand what happened to make us act like this,’’ he said, and she nodded.

‘’Well, I remember what you said – I was still the same, the bitch I was before I found out I was pregnant. So no, you don’t get to go off easy, because you hurt me with that, Jason. You were drunk and you hurt me with that. I was waiting here, like a good little girl, for you to come home but you never did,’’ she snapped, and she jumped up. Feeling dizzy, she closed her eyes and grabbed the table, and she felt Jason hold her around her waist but she didn’t want that. ‘’Get off of me,’’ she said, but it sounded weak in her own ears.

‘’Sam you have to calm down, I’m sorry I’ll leave if that means you’ll calm down, you need to calm down,’’ he said, over and over again, until she opened her eyes and pushed him away.

‘’Go, I’ll probably see you tomorrow, at Emma’s party,’’ she said, and he nodded. She knew she had to make up with Jason if she wanted him in Lila’s life, and he knew he had to do something to make her see she believed in him.

‘’Please – let me help you,’’ he said, and he held out his hand. She struggled with her mind for a moment but then took his hand, having the feeling she needed his help. She wanted him to be like this always – loving and caring – and not shut down on her when things get hard. He helped her to her room, and helped her in the bed, lifting her legs in it. ‘’Are you ok?’’ he asked, and she nodded with her eyes closed.

‘’I’m fine, Jason. Just go, please,’’ she said, and he sighed and kissed her cheek. She heard him walk out the room, leaving the door open just a little bit – how she liked it – and then she heard the front door close. As soon as he had closed the front door, Sam was fast asleep.

@@@@@@

The next day Jason made his way to Robin and Patrick for Emma’s first birthday party. He was surprised this morning when he didn’t have a hangover, but he didn’t feel himself yet. After he left Sam last night he had been thinking about what she had said, and he had started to remember what he had said. She’d called him, the night after they had a fight, and he had told her she was still the same as before. He cursed himself for ever saying that, because she already knew what he had thought of her when they found out she was pregnant, and he had been lying when he said that. He didn’t think that at all, he had just been angry with her and wanted to hurt her. Good job he did at that, he thought.

He knocked on the door when he arrived, and smiled at Robin when she opened the door. ‘’Hey Robin, congrats on the rugrat’s first birthday,’’ he said as he kissed her on her cheek.

‘’Hey, Jason, glad you could make it,’’ she said with a smile, and he nodded. He wouldn’t miss it for the world, seeing as he really loved the little girl. ‘’Come on in, the party has just started,’’ she added with a grin, and he smiled at her.

‘’That’s good, we’re going to get this party to be the party of the year,’’ he replied, joking. She laughed and pointed to the table, and he placed his gift on top of all the others. ‘’So, where is the little birthday girl?’’ he asked, and Robin showed him to the back, to the garden.

‘’She’s outside, everyone is, because right now it’s nice and I wanted to have some fresh air before we go in for the cake,’’ she told him, and he nodded and followed her outside. When he spotted Emma, he walked over to her and hugged her tight, telling her ‘happy birthday’. That’s when he saw Sam, and she looked tired. He knew it was his fault, and he felt guilty for it. He made his way over to her and stopped right in front if her.

‘’Hey, how are you feeling?’’ he asked, and he looked down at her stomach. She was rubbing it, but she didn’t seem to notice.

‘’I’m fine, thank you,’’ she said politely, and he nodded. ‘’You know, I never said I’m sorry for the way I treated you in the hospital that day,’’ she said softly, and he looked up at her.

‘’You don’t have to-‘’ he started, but she interrupted him.

‘’No, I mean I was wrong, and because I acted like a baby you choose to move out and do the things you did. And I’m sorry for that,’’ she said, and he nodded again, accepting her apology. ‘’How are you feeling? Did you have any headaches?’’ she asked him softly, and he shook his head.

‘’I’m fine, no headaches or anything,’’ he told her, and she nodded. Suddenly she gasped, and bended over a little. ‘’Sam, are you ok?’ he asked, concerned, and he saw Robin move toward them.

‘’Sam, breath, you know what to do!’’ Robin said, and Sam nodded, and started to breath deeply and calmly. ‘’That’s right, you’re doing fine,’’ Robin said, and Sam nodded again, standing up.

‘’I’m fine,’’ she said softly, and he sighed of relief. ‘’I’ve been having Braxton Hicks contractions the last week – there not much fun,’’ she told him, and he nodded, again feeling guilty. He hadn’t even called to ask her about the baby, and she never even told him about it either.

‘’I thought you were having a real contraction – damn, do you have these often?’’ he asked her, and she shook her head.

‘’No, I don’t even feel them all the time, but sometimes they hurt more than other times,’’ she told him, and he nodded. ‘’But it’s good, because that way I know everything is alright, and I have Robin to help me through them,’’ she added, and he sighed. He wanted to be there. He saw her move her hand to her stomach, and then she took his hand and put it on her stomach. ‘’Do you feel? It’s still a little hard, and it means my uterus is practicing for labor,’’ she said with a smile, and he nodded. He could feel her stomach soften and he sighed of relief, and smiled when the baby kicked. ‘’She missed you,’’ Sam whispered, and he looked at her and saw tears in her eyes.

‘’I missed her too – and I missed her mother too,’’ he told her, and she blinked to get the tears away. ‘’I’ve been so stupid, Sam,’’ he added, and he took his hand from her stomach and cupped her face. ‘’I want to come back, and I know we have to work on this, but I want to be there for you,’’ he said, and she nodded. Just then Lucky walked into the garden and she widened her eyes.

‘’What is he doing here?’’ she asked, and he turned around and saw his friend. He closed his eyes and moaned, and looked at Sam to see the angry stance she had taken. ‘’He’s going to ruin my niece’s party, Jason!’’ she exclaimed, and he nodded.

‘’I’m going to tell him to leave,’’ he said, but before he could move Lucky was with them and sneering at Sam.

‘’I see you trapped him again. He was so smart before when he left you – I don’t know what’s wrong with his head but he must’ve hit it because he was clear on where you stood before,’’ he growled, and Jason jumped in front of Sam to make sure she didn’t jump Lucky. He knew she was capable and wanted to do just that.

‘’Lucky, you better – you better leave before you make things worse,’’ Jason said, and Lucky smiled at him, but he didn’t like that smile. He knew Lucky was up to something.

@@@@@@

Sam could feel herself tense, when she heard him say that to Lucky. And when she looked at Lucky she could see he had something to tell her.

‘’So tell me what you think I need to know, Lucky, and get the fuck out of here,’’ she growled, softly so the kids couldn’t hear it. She protectively laid her hands on her stomach and felt a shiver down her spine when she saw Lucky’s face.

‘’Well, now I don’t know if I should, but you remember that night you called Jason right?’’ he asked, and Sam nodded, ready to kick Lucky out. ‘’Jason had a lot of fun that night, you remember that Jason? That girl you did those things with?’’ Lucky said, and he grinned evilly. Sam turned around Jason and looked at him, and she could see the frown on his face. He didn’t even remember it.

‘’Is that it?’’ she asked, and Lucky nodded, ‘’ok, then get the hell out of here,’’ she said, and she pushed him toward the door. ‘’Go, you’re not welcome here,’’ she added softly, and pushed him again. He just grinned, and then he chuckled.

‘’I’d be good enough for you – we’d fit. You’re a bitch and I’m an asshole, right?’’ he snapped at her, and she tried not to listen to him, but she couldn’t help it. ‘’And it seemed Jason thought so too, but now I don’t know anymore. He’s changed because of you, and I really don’t like you because of it,’’ he rambled, and she felt a pang in her heart.

‘’You better close that mouth of yours,’’ she said, and she could hear the hurt in her voice, even if she tried to conceal it.

‘’Yeah, I hear I hit something there. Well, you better get over him because he doesn’t love you and he never will. He just wants to be in your life for that bastard-‘’ he couldn’t finish his sentence because Sam punched him in the face, and he grabbed his cheek and glared at her. ‘’You bitch,’’ he said, and he raised his hand to hit her back, when he stopped and was thrown back. Patrick stood next to Sam and glared at Lucky.

‘’Don’t even think about it. Leave, or I’ll throw you out and I wont be as nice as Sam is,’’ he growled, and Lucky frowned, but grinned and left. Sam moved to the couch and sank down, not knowing what she felt anymore. She rubbed her stomach to try and calm down her baby girl, but she knew she had to calm down herself before Lila would calm down. A tear slid down her face and she wiped it away, but soon more followed and she couldn’t stop anymore. ‘’Sam, sweetie, he was just trying to get you angry,’’ Patrick said, and he sat down next to her and pulled her in his arms.

‘’I know…’’ she said, lying. She didn’t know what he wanted to do but he had placed a seed of doubt about Jason. Another thing she worried about, having Jason around would only make things worse. ‘’Patrick, I think I want to lie down for a moment, can I?’’ she asked, feeling tired all of a sudden.

‘’Sure, just go and rest for a moment,’’ he whispered, and he kissed her on her cheek. She smiled weakly at him. He helped her get up and brought her to her old room, helping her lift her legs up on the bed and propped some pillows under them.

‘’Thank you, but I don’t-‘’ she started, but he stopped her and kissed her cheek again.

‘’You need to rest, the cake isn’t ready yet, so I’ll come and get you when it is,’’ he told her sternly, and she nodded. ‘’Now close your eyes and rest for a bit,’’ he told her again, and she closed them. She felt herself sink in a deep sleep before she knew it.

He didn’t remember what happened that night. He only remembered what happened when Sam called him. Everything else was a blur, but he did remember meeting someone. He didn’t know what happened after that, and he hated it.

‘’Patrick,’’ he called out when he saw him walking toward him, ‘’where’s Sam?’’ he asked, and Patrick pointed to the back.

‘’She’s in her old room, resting. Leave her alone for a moment and then you can go in but don’t do anything you’ll regret,’’ he snapped, and Jason nodded. He could understand why Patrick was mad at him, because he had been acting like a jerk the past couple of weeks. He didn’t want to wait so he waited until Patrick had left to tend to the guests before he made his way over to Sam. He opened the door softly, making sure she wouldn’t wake up if she was asleep, and when he looked at her he saw she was sleeping. He closed his eyes for a moment.

‘’What are you doing?’’ he heard her ask, and he opened his eyes and saw she was awake. She looked exhausted, and he frowned. ‘’Jason?’’

‘’I was coming here to check on you…’’ his voice faded and he sighed. ‘’You know, I don’t know what I want, right? I want to be with you and after what happened just now I don’t think you want that anymore so I want to know what you want, right?’’ he said, and she sighed. He didn’t know what he wanted, and he didn’t know what she wanted anymore.

‘’I don’t know Jason, you know after what Lucky just told me, about everything, I don’t know what to think anymore. You say you love me and then you turn around and say I didn’t change one bit, and I know what you thought of me before, so yeah, I’m not sure of any of it anymore. Jason, I’m pregnant, and I don’t have the luxury to do what I want anymore, and it’s just hard,’’ she rambled, and he nodded.

‘’I know, and I want to be there for you and the baby but you don’t seem to want me there,’’ he said, and he sat down next to her on the bed.

‘’I want you to be there for her, she needs you Jason. But you need to clean up your act if you want to be there for her, because I don’t want you to get drunk every other night just because you can,’’ she whispered, and he looked down. She was right and he knew it, but it was hard to just not drink when he didn’t have a reason.

‘’You know, you act like this is all because I drink, but that’s not true, and you know it. I’m not the only one-‘’

‘’Jason I don’t drink, because I can’t right now and I learned from my mistakes – you know I love Lila, but it wasn’t planned and I don’t want it to ever happen again. You, on the other hand, go on like nothing happened even though you wanted to be in her life,’’ she said, interrupting him. he frowned, and suddenly he realized what she had said.

‘’Lila?’’ he asked, and she turned red.

‘’I thought – I mean after your grandmother died I remembered her name and that you told me you were close to her, and I wanted there to be another Lila Morgan,’’ she whispered, ‘’but if you don’t like it we – we can think of something else?’’

‘’No, no I love it, thank you. I didn’t – thank you,’’ he said, and he closed his eyes for a moment. It felt good, and he felt guilty at the same time thinking about what he was putting her through. ‘’I’m sorry. Sam, if you want me to back off, I will, but just know I love you, I really do, and I’ll do anything for you,’’ he told her, and he got up.

‘’I want you to stay, I want you to stay with me, I want you there when she’s born, Jason. I don’t want you to back off, but we just need to take it slow,’’ she whispered, and he nodded.

‘’That’s all I needed to hear, Sam,’’ he said softly, and she smiled at him.

‘’I do love you, Jason – you know I do right?’’ she asked, and he nodded.

‘’I know, and I love you too, we’re going to make this work,’’ he said, and he really believed it. They were going to make it work just because they wanted it to work. ‘’Just rest, and I’ll come and get you later,’’ he told her, and he moved back to the door. He looked at her one last time, and saw she had already fallen asleep with a smile on her face. He grinned, feeling better than he had in the past three weeks, knowing they would make everything work. Even though he knew they would have to talk a lot he knew they would be in it together.

Chapter 9-1

3 weeks later

Sam woke up when there was a knock on the door and sighed. She’d stopped working this week and she was even more exhausted then when she had been working. She stepped out of bed with some difficulty and threw on a shirt and sweats when there was another knock on the door. ‘’I’m coming,’’ she called out, and she slowly made her way to the door. She knew who it was and she didn’t care if he saw her like this. She did rub the sleep out of her eyes and went though her hair with her fingers before she opened the door to the delivery boy. She took the flowers from him and smiled at him. ‘’Just wait a moment, you woke me up this morning,’’ she told him, and he smiled at her.

‘’You finally stopped working,’’ he said, ‘’you have a right to sleep in,’’ he added, and she nodded with a grin. Jason had been sending her flowers every day, and when he couldn’t come he would call her and tell her. Sam made her way to the living room and grabbed her wallet, took out some money and walked back.

‘’Here you go Danny,’’ she said with a smile, and the boy took it while looking down blushing. ‘’You deserve it,’’ she told him, and he shook his head, but didn’t say anything about it.

‘’You are popular lately, do you have a secret admirer?’’ he asked her, and she grinned and shook her head.

‘’No, these are from the baby’s father, he wants to make up to me,’’ she said as she rubbed her stomach, and she laughed.

‘’Well, I see he is really trying – I would take you to dinner – do you know that little restaurant just out of town?’’ he asked, and she nodded with a smile – what he choose to ‘take her’ was a kids diner, but that didn’t matter. Danny smiled at her and she couldn’t help but smile back – the boy was sweet and she liked seeing him when he brought her the flowers. ‘’Ok, I have to go Ms. McCall, but I will see you tomorrow I’m sure,’’ he said, and she grinned and waved at him as he walked away.

Danny had been the only one to deliver her the flowers, and somehow she had a feeling Jason had a hand in it. She had been receiving flowers every morning for the last three weeks, and even though she didn’t know what to do with them in the beginning she started to like getting the flowers. They were all different, but he’d sent her Lilacs the most. She made her way over to the kitchen to make herself some tea when there was another knock on the door, and she sighed and rolled her eyes. She looked at the kettle, and shrugged knowing it wasn’t done yet, and made her way back to the front door to open it.

‘’Hey Nick, what are you doing here?’’ she asked, and Nick sighed and smiled at her.

‘’Can I come in, I want to tell you something,’’ he said, and she nodded and stepped aside. ‘’Oh, you’re making tea for me?’’ he asked teasingly, and she smiled.

‘’I have enough for you too,’’ she told him, and he winked at her. He followed her to the kitchen and she made them some tea before sitting down. ‘’So, you wanted to tell me something?’’ she asked, and he nodded.

‘’Well, Jason told me about what Lucky said and I wanted to explain since Jason can’t – he still doesn’t remember what really happened and I was there, hoping he would stop drinking if I might add,’’ Nick said, and she nodded. She didn’t know if she wanted to hear this, but she wanted to know what happened. ‘’So, Lucky told you about what Jason said – that’s not true. You remember the phone call, it was just Lucky making him angry because of what happened in the hospital, and he acted on it,’’ Nick said, and she nodded.

‘’But why would he say he thought I was just like I was before? Nick, was I that bad?’’ she asked softly, and he shook his head.

‘’No, I didn’t think so, but Jason was listening to what Lucky said and he acted on it like I just said, and he thought you were difficult in the beginning,’’ Nick told her, and she looked down. ‘’But Sam, he told me when you two were getting closer, he knew he was wrong, and he really liked you even thought you could be a pain in the ass sometimes,’’ he said with a wink, and she smiled.

‘’He’s not easy either,’’ she told him, and he nodded.

‘’Oh believe me, I know. But the girl Lucky was talking about – it wasn’t Jason who took her home. It was Lucky, and yeah, Jason flirted with her, but he was smart and thought about you, he couldn’t hook up with her. He told me himself he didn’t want her, because he was in love with you – and that was earlier on that night,’’ he explained to her, and she nodded, feeling the tears burn in her eyes.

‘’You know, I wasn’t even mad at him anymore – I was just hurt. I know I was childish that day in the hospital, and that’s why I called him. I wanted to talk to him and explain, I never thought he would go out and get drunk,’’ she told Nick, and he nodded. ‘’When he picked up the phone I wanted to yell at him, but I didn’t because I knew it wouldn’t make a difference, and that’s when I got mad and – well I ignored him. Because he did call, one or two times, and I didn’t pick up. How sad is that, huh?’’ she asked with a weak smile, and he shook his head.

‘’I wouldn’t have picked up either, Sam, don’t worry about that. You know after that night I didn’t want to talk to him, because I didn’t like the way he listened to Lucky and hurt you, and I didn’t come over because I felt guilty. I should’ve been the one to stop him, even though he should’ve have called. I was there because I wanted to make sure he didn’t do anything stupid, but he did and I didn’t stop it,’’ he said, and she took his hand.

‘’Nick, I know you think this is your fault but it isn’t. This is Jason, and this is me, you don’t have any fault in this. I love Jason with all my heard but he has to change his habits of drinking and partying for Lila, you know,’’ she said, ‘’but Jason is working for it and I know he hasn’t been out the past three weeks, he is really working for it,’’ she added pointing to all the flowers that were in the kitchen, and Nick laughed.

‘’Yeah, I see he is trying to win your heart. Even though you just told me you loved him,’’ he said, ‘’why don’t you just tell him what you just told me?’’ he asked, and she nodded.

‘’I did, I told him after Emma’s party what I wanted him to do and change, but I threw in flowers every day as a joke and he seems to take it seriously,’’ she said with a wink, and he laughed. ‘’Some days he actually writes a message with th flowers, telling me to be ready for dinner at night, or telling me he can’t come. Some days he calls and some days he just comes by real quick to make sure I know he can’t come over later,’’ she told Nick, and he nodded.

‘’He’s really seeing you for the great woman you are, and he is seeing he needs to treat you with respect rather then going out and saying stupid drunken stuff to you,’’ Nick said, ‘’I talked to him and he told me he wanted to let you see he was changing, and even though he would still drink – I know he will be careful around the baby. I’ve seen him with Emma, and I know he wants your daughter to have a daddy,’’ Nick said, and then he stood. ‘’I have to go, I didn’t plan on staying too long,’’ he said, and she nodded and struggled to get up. Even with Nick’s help it was hard to get up from the low chair.

‘’It’s like I’m to heavy for myself to carry,’’ she mumbled as he rubbed her stomach with one hand and the other rubbing her back. ‘’I’m so ready for Lila to come out, you wouldn’t know,’’ she added, and Nick smiled.

‘’When are you due?’’ he asked, as they made their way to the door, and she told him. ‘’Oh, it’s not that long right,’’ he said, and she widened her eyes, as Lila started kicking up a storm.

‘’Here, feel,’’ she said, and grabbed his hand, ‘’this is what she does lately, kicking me on my bladder every time, and eve though I love feeling her, I kind of don’t like her kick – kicking my bladder,’’ she said, and he smiled.

‘’And like this those last weeks will last longer than you think, you want to say?’’ he asked, and she nodded. They would feel like ages. ‘’I understand. I think I’m not going to put Emily through that.’’

‘’Well sure you are. If you want kids and she wants them, you are going to put her through this – but remember, what you get back is way more than what you have to give up,’’ she told him, and he grinned.

‘’You’re right. I’ll see you around, Sam, and be careful,’’ he said, and she nodded and told him to be careful too. She waited until he had stepped in his car and drove away, and then walked back inside. She smiled, feeling a lot better now she knew what happened that night.

@@@@@@

Jason smiled at Carly as she told him about the plan. He had asked her to help him plan a romantic dinner, and she would get Sam out of the house so he could decorate with Emily. ‘’So, when she’s out of the house I’ll text you or Em, and then you need to move fast. I’ll take her to the mall or something…’’ she stopped when she saw the look on his face, ‘’what?’’

‘’Well, I don’t think she’ll want to go to the mall. She’s been very tired lately and she told me she wanted to take it easy – and she already has everything she needs for Lila so she wouldn’t go to the mall, she’ll know something is up,’’ he told her, and Carly nodded and thought about it some more.

‘’Well, I can take her to see Mike, she loves him, and she’ll have those muffins he makes for her,’’ she said, and he nodded, ‘’yeah, that’s what I’m going to do. So that way you have to work real fast if you want it to be perfect,’’ she told him, and he nodded again.

‘’I know, but with Em I can make it,’’ he told her, and she smiled. ‘’I really appreciate you helping me Carly,’’ he said softly, and she hugged him.

‘’I love you, and I love Sam, and I want you together so yeah, I’m helping you,’’ she said, and he laughed. ‘’I like you better now; you’re not that party animal anymore. Ever since you met Sam you changed, Jason and I think she sees it too,’’ she told him, and he nodded.

‘’I wanted to change for her, and I was stupid before. I see it, and I want to be with her,’’ he told her, and he thought back on the past three weeks. After Emma’s party they had a serious and hard talk about what they wanted, and he had realized he wanted her. He wanted all of her, and he wanted her to want him. ‘’No, I didn’t say that right. I wanted to change, period. When I met her I didn’t know what I wanted with my life, but now I do. It took me a long time, because I messed up badly, and I am grateful for the chance she gave me,’’ he corrected himself, and Carly smiled.

‘’I know, and you really are lucky she’s giving you another chance. You better get going, because I’m going to see her now,’’ she added, and he nodded. They both made their way out of the penthouse, and Carly made her way to the house, and Jason made his way to Em, who was at Kelly’s waiting for him to call. They would go shopping for decorations and then go over to Sam’s place. As he drove to Kelly’s he thought back on the past three weeks and smiled. Sam had told him she wanted flowers every morning, and she got them. He would make sure to contact her every day, if it was seeing her and spending time with her, or calling her to ask her how she was doing when he didn’t have time. He had found a job, because the last job he had he had been fired, and he found something he really liked. He was working with security, and he really enjoyed working there.

After he had found the job he had been having less time, but he always made time to see Sam, and if he really couldn’t he would call her, and she didn’t mind. He also made sure there was only one person to deliver the flowers because he knew Sam would want to get to know the person, and he also made sure it was a boy fresh out of high school – he knew the boy was mentally disabled, but that didn’t matter much. He knew Sam would like talking to him, because she was a very talkative person.

He arrived at Kelly’s and saw Patrick come out, and he waved at him. When Patrick saw him he approached him, and smiled at him. ‘’So have you talked to Sam yet today?’’ he asked, and Jason shook his head.

‘’No, I didn’t talk to her yet but I’m planning something for her and I will be seeing her tonight,’’ he told Patrick, who nodded and smiled. Then suddenly he stopped and stared at Jason.

‘’Did she ever tell you why she was in her room that day?’’ he asked, and when Jason shook his head Patrick sighed. ‘’I knew it, I just wanted to be sure. You remember she dragged Lucky out, and you were there with Emma to watch her for a moment right?’’

‘’Yeah, I remember. What happened? What did he say?’’ Jason asked, frowning.

‘’Well, he was trying to get her angry and said some things, and then she punched him in his face. He wanted to hit her back Jason, and I was lucky I was there because he seemed really angry. I thought you wanted to know and because I didn’t see you for a while I couldn’t tell you, but that guy is out of control, Jason. He’s an ass and I wanted to kill him there, but I – you know,’’ he said, and Jason growled.

‘’He’s going to get what he’s got coming,’’ he snapped, and Patrick nodded. ‘’When I talked to him I’ll call you,’’ Jason growled, and Patrick nodded and walked off. Jason made his way inside the diner and greeted Emily, hugging her.

‘’What’s wrong Jason?’’ she asked, and he shrugged. He didn’t want to ruin everything.

‘’I need to go talk to Lucky because he’s gone too far this time, Em. Can you take the shopping while I do that?’’ he asked, and she nodded, confused about what was going on. ‘’I’ll tell you all about it when I get back but we don’t have much time Em,’’ he told her when he saw her face, and she nodded.

‘’I’ll see you, at Sam’s place. If you’re not done talking to Lucky yet I’ll start ok?’’ she said, and when he nodded she kissed him on his cheek and left the diner. Jason made his way out and stepped in his car, ready to confront Lucky.

@@@

Jason knocked on the door of Lucky’s new place and waited. It didn’t take him long to open it, and when he saw Jason he smiled. ‘’You change you’re mind about that witch?’’ he asked, and Jason pushed inside and slammed Lucky against the wall.

‘’You’ve gone to far this time you asshole, and you’re going to pay for it,’’ he growled, and he punched Lucky in his face. ‘’Trying to hit Sam – are you crazy?’’ he asked, kicking him in his groin.

‘’Are you crazy, Jason stop it!’’ Lucky yelled, his voice high because of the pain. Jason growled again and kicked him in his gut, then slammed his fist on his back.

‘’You can’t go around hitting women, you idiot, and certainly not my woman! You have to accept,’’ Jason said, hitting him again, ‘’that I wont tolerate that, and I’m not you’re friend anymore. I haven’t been in a while and I won’t be ever again, you bastard,’’ Jason yelled, and he let go of Lucky. He fell to the floor, and Jason just stared down at him.

‘’You’re crazy Jason,’’ Lucky groaned, and Jason nodded. He didn’t care what Lucky thought.

‘’If you ever come near Sam, if you ever come near my child, or me, I’ll kill you,’’ he said, his voice cold as stone. Then he made his way out of the apartment, slamming the door behind him, leaving Lucky to lick his wounds and making his way to Sam’s house.

@@@@@@

‘’Carly, I really appreciate you taking me out, but I don’t want to shop,’’ Sam whined, and Carly smiled.

‘’You don’t have to shop – you already have everything you need, and right now I’m going to make you relax. I booked a day at the spa for you,’’ Carly said, and Sam widened her eyes. ‘’Yeah, I know you stopped working and I know you’ve been tired a lot, and I want you to relax for a day,’’ she added, and Sam smiled.

‘’But Jason is coming over later,’’ she said, and Carly nodded.

‘’I know, but he told me it would be later on the day because he had to go in for work,’’ she lied, and Sam looked down hiding her disappointment. She loved spending time with Carly, she just wanted to see Jason right now, she wanted to talk to him and tell him she loved him, and tell him she was ready to make the jump if he was.

‘’Ok,’’ she simply said, ‘’so you’re coming too right? I don’t want to go there alone,’’ she said, and Carly nodded. They stepped out of the car and Carly helped Sam, and Sam smiled. She had been having trouble moving around and getting up lately, and she was grateful for her friends. They were always there to help her, and as she followed Carly she threw her arm around her and hugged her while walking.

‘’What’s that for?’’ Carly asked while hugging her back, and Sam just shrugged. ‘’Ok, so it’s not going to take all day, we just have a small program and then you can go home and wait for Jason,’’ Carly said and she winked.

‘’Thank you Carly, I really appreciate this,’’ Sam said, and they went inside to enjoy the day.

@@@@@@

Jason smiled as he saw the decorations. They were all romantic and he didn’t do romance very well but he loved it. ‘’This is perfect,’’ he said, as he looked in the bags. ‘’Now I know Carly said we didn’t have a lot of time but I think she lied to me. Sam just left me a message – I turned off my phone – and she told me she was going to the spa – she deserves the relaxation,’’ he told Em, who nodded with a smile.

‘’What happened with Lucky Jason?’’ she asked when she saw his hands, and he sighed.

‘’Lucky – you know what happened at the party with him, but he also tried to hit Sam, so I went there and told him that’s not tolerated. I think he get’s the message now, and if he doesn’t he knows what will happen,’’ he replied darkly, and Em nodded.

‘’So you told him in not so many words what you thought of him?’’ she asked, and he nodded. She laughed, ‘’Jason, now I know you changed for the better. I never liked Lucky to begin with!’’

‘’Yep, and I get that now. I should’ve known he was like this but at one point I was the same and I regret ever being friends with him,’’ he said, and then they started decorating the place. He put candles everywhere, and Emily started putting roses all over the place. They worked in silence, and he knew this night was going to be perfect.

@@@

Jason looked around the place and nodded. Emily had left half an hour ago when Sam had called to tell him she was on her way home now, and he had told her he would be waiting for her. She still didn’t know what was going on and as he made his way to the kitchen he took the box out of his pocket. He knew she wouldn’t want to marry him, so he bought two different things. A necklace, and a ring. It wasn’t a wedding ring or engagement ring, more like a promise ring. He would promise her he would love her with that ring, for always. He would promise her he would be there for her even if things got hard, and he would never shut her out again. He knew that was what started this whole thing, and he knew he had to make sure she understood his feelings.

@@@@@@

Sam stepped out of the car with help from Carly, and frowned when she saw something flicker inside of the house. ‘’What is he up to?’’ she asked herself, and Carly laughed.

‘’You just have to go in and see,’’ she replied, ‘’have fun!’’ she said, and without saying anything else she stepped in the car and drove away. Sam shrugged and waved, and then she made her way to the door. When she got there she saw it was open, and she walked in and closed it behind her knowing Jason was inside, and he had probably left it open for her. When she came into the kitchen she gasped, seeing everything was made up for a romantic dinner. Jason came out and she gasped again, when she saw his smile and the way he had dressed. He was wearing a tux, and she widened her eyes.

‘’Dinner for two,’’ he said, and he held out his hand.

Chapter 9-2

‘’Dinner for two,’’ he said, and he held out his hand.

Sam looked around and took a deep breath. She looked at Jason again and smiled at him, but frowned when she saw the look on his face. She took his hand, which he still held out, and he smiled brightly at her. ‘’I thought you didn’t want-‘’

‘’I’m surprised, I would’ve never thought you’d do something like this,’’ she told him softly, and he nodded as he led her to the kitchen and helped her sit down. He shoved the chair under the table gently, because he didn’t want to hurt her, and she looked up at him, ‘’thank you,’’ she said, and he smiled and sat opposite of her. Once he had seen her coming he had placed dinner on the table with something over it to hold it warm, and he took the covers off.

‘’I hope you like it, because I knew you liked Italian but I can’t make anything – except a little pasta,’’ he told her, and she smiled.

‘’It’s ok, I love this,’’ she said, and she picked up her fork. When she looked at him, she saw him staring at her, and she rolled her eyes. ‘’What is it?’’ she asked, and he shook his head.

‘’Nothing, just that – well, you’re beautiful, and I think today did you good,’’ he told her, and she blushed. She never thought she would blush from a compliment, but she knew Jason meant it and it felt so good.

‘’Thank you,’’ she said softly, ‘’I really enjoyed today, and I know you had a hand in Carly taking me to the spa,’’ she added, and he shrugged.

‘’I only told her to get you out of the house so I could decorate with Em,’’ he told her, and she nodded with a smile. ‘’Let’s eat, because I wouldn’t want you to eat cold pasta,’’ he said, and she nodded. She picked up her fork again and they started eating.

‘’Wow, this is really good,’’ she said between bites, and he grinned.

‘’Yeah, that’s because I didn’t make it. I didn’t want to go to a restaurant because I knew you didn’t want to do that at this point in your pregnancy, but I did want something that was worth this night,’’ he told her, and she smiled at him.

‘’I should’ve known. And you’re right, I wouldn’t want to go out looking like a whale,’’ she said and she winked at him.

‘’You’re beautiful, and you don’t look like a whale, but I just figured you’d like this more,’’ he said, and she smiled. He was so sweet to her tonight, and she wondered what had brought this change. She liked it, but she also liked it when he played around with her a little, and he was so serious right now.

‘’Thank you,’’ she said, and they continued eating. The dinner was great, and she loved him for thinking about her. ‘’This was amazing,’’ she said as she pushed her plate a little, and he smiled at her.

‘’It’s all for you babe,’’ he said with a wink, and she smiled. There was the Jason she knew and loved, and she closed her eyes for a moment and took a deep breath. ‘’Are you ok?’’ he asked her, and she nodded.

‘’I’m fine – I’m great,’’ she told him, and he smiled at her. ‘’I love that you did this, Jason,’’ she told him, and he nodded.

‘’And I’m not done either, but why don’t we go sit in the living room so I can rub your feet,’’ he said, and she smiled and nodded. He got up and helped her up, and they made their way to the living room hand in hand.

@@@@@@

He helped her sit down on the couch and put her legs up, and he sat down with her feet in his hands. He started massaging them, and he looked at her. She had closed her eyes and he could see the smile on her face, and he was glad she liked it. ‘’So you wanted to talk right?’’ she asked, and he sighed and nodded, even though she couldn’t see it.

‘’Yeah, I wanted to tell you something,’’ he started, and she opened her eyes and looked at him. ‘’When I first met you, Lucky and Nick told me you were cold and you didn’t want anything to do with them, and you were a challenge for me. I didn’t think anything like this would happen and I acted like a child when you came to tell me, and I acted like a jerk when you came to get me the first time – the first appointment,’’ he said, and she nodded. He smiled at her when she didn’t stop him and tell him he was wrong, but he didn’t mind. He knew how he had been and he knew he had been acting stupidly. ‘’So, at one point we decided to stop fighting, and I got to know you – and I loved you soon after – or maybe I did already and that’s why I acted like that,’’ he said, and she smiled.

‘’I love you too, Jason, I do,’’ she whispered, and he smiled and nodded.

‘’I know I messed up, Sam, with what I said and what I did lately, and I want you to know that I’m so very sorry for it. I want you to have the best and if that means I have to go, I would, but I don’t want to. I want you, I want you to be with me, and I want to give you everything I have. I want to share my life with you,’’ he said, and he looked at her again to see her eyes wide and her mouth open. ‘’I’m not asking you to marry me, Sam, I just want you to know that I know what I want now. I want you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you and if we get married one day, I’d love it, and I would be the husband you deserve, but I know its too soon to ask you to marry me,’’ he told her, and she nodded.

‘’You’re right,’’ she replied simply, and he nodded and continued.

‘’I just want to be there, you know? I want to be there for you and for Lila, and I want to be a full-time dad and I know I have to work on it, but I am going to show you that. I just – god this is harder than I thought,’’ he said and he laughed softly, and she smiled at him.

‘’I know all that, Jason. I really know you want to be there, and I’m not stopping you. I want you to understand that I’ll never kick you out, never push you out of Lila’s life, and I also want you to know I want to be with you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you too, and I hope we can make it work,’’ she whispered the last part, and he nodded. He got up and grabbed the box out of his pocket, and she smiled at him.

‘’I know you don’t want to get married right away, and I didn’t buy an engagement ring, but I’d like you to wear this,’’ he told her, and he opened the box for her and showed her the ‘promise ring’. She gasped and stared at him in surprise. ‘’It’s a promise, that I’ll be there. Whenever you look at that ring, you’ll know that all you have to do is call me and I’ll be there for you,’’ he told her, and she nodded.

‘’I love it,’’ she whispered, and he could see the tears in her eyes. ‘’I love it, so much, thank you. Can you – I mean I can’t wear it,’’ she told him, and he frowned.

‘’Why not?’’ he asked, and he tried to put it on her finger when he suddenly realized – her fingers were swollen and she couldn’t wear the ring. ‘’Ah…’’

‘’That’s what I meant,’’ she whispered, and he nodded with a smile.

‘’Well, I wanted to give you this later, but I do have something else for you,’’ he told her, and he got up again and picked another box out of his pocket. He handed it to her, and she gave him the ring so she could open it. She gasped, seeing the star necklace that was in there, and she looked up at him with tears in her eyes.

‘’O my god, Jason this is beautiful,’’ she exclaimed, and he nodded. He held out his hand and she handed the necklace to him.

‘’See, I can – I can put the ring on there if you want and then when you’re – when you can wear it again we’ll put it on!’’ he told her, and she nodded with a smile, wiping away the tears. He walked around and stood behind her so she wouldn’t have to turn around, and clasped the necklace around her neck. ‘’There you go, they taught me in the store the other day,’’ he told her with a grin, and she smiled up at him. She held out her hand and when he took it, she pulled him down to her and kissed him gently.

‘’Thank you, I love it,’’ she whispered, and he held his cheek against hers before pushing her forward a little and sitting behind her. He pulled her against his chest and she sighed as she leaned back. He wrapped his arms around her, his hands on her stomach as he felt his baby – their baby girl – kick inside of her. ‘’Ow,’’ she moaned, and then she laughed, ‘’she missed you,’’ she told him, and he smiled as he closed his eyes.

‘’I missed her too, and I can’t wait to see her,’’ he told Sam, who closed her eyes and relaxed in his arms. ‘’You’re tired aren’t you?’’ he asked her, and she just nodded against his chest.

‘’I am,’’ she said, and he could hear the exhaustion in her voice. ‘’Carly wore me out, I’m sorry,’’ she whispered, and he grinned.

‘’It’s ok, do you want to go to bed?’’ he asked her, and she nodded.

‘’But I want you to stay, Jason. Just stay with me,’’ she whispered, and he nodded. They got op, Sam with his help, and they made their way to the bedroom. He knew he had left something there, and he grabbed stuff out of the closet for her too. He smiled when he saw all his shirts in her closet, and he took one for her and gave it to her. She smiled, ‘’thank you,’’ she said, and she pulled off her shirt. He stared at her as she put on his shirt, and when she looked at him, she saw him staring.

‘’You’re beautiful,’’ he said, and he made his way over to her and helped her take off her jeans. ‘’You know, I love to see you’re belly, it fits you so well being pregnant.’’

‘’Thank you – I feel like a whale with this weight on me,’’ she said while blushing. He shook his head, helped her in bed and lay down behind her. ‘’I’ve missed this,’’ she said, and he nodded.

‘’Me too, even though we didn’t have the chance to do it more often. I love spending time with you and just holding you. I love you,’’ he whispered the last part in her ear, and she smiled.

‘’I love you too,’’ she whispered, and then she fell asleep. Jason smiled, knowing she had been exhausted, and he closed his eyes and soon followed her lead and fell asleep.

Sam woke up in the middle of the night when she felt the urge to pee, and she carefully got out of bed because she didn’t want to wake Jason. When she made her way to the bathroom she felt the baby kick, so she had to pee even more. She closed the door behind her and did her business, and then she washed her hands and moved back to the bedroom. ‘’Where did you go?’’ she heard Jason’s muffled voice, and she jumped in surprise.

‘’I went to the bathroom,’’ she whispered, and he nodded and held out his arms. She moved to lie down and he smiled at her when she did, and she smiled back at him. ‘’I didn’t know you were awake – I’m sorry if I woke you,’’ she whispered, and he shrugged.

‘’I sleep better with you in my arms,’’ he simply replied, and pulled her close. ‘’I didn’t know where you were,’’ he added, and she nodded.

‘’I didn’t think you’d mind,’’ she said teasing him, and he chuckled, but soon he fell silent, and she knew he was asleep. She didn’t mind, she was tired too, and she closed her eyes only to find sleep again.

The next morning Sam woke up alone, and she looked around to see if Jason was still in the room but he wasn’t. She saw the door was open and she got out of bed and threw on her sweats, and wondered where Danny was. It was already passed the time he normally showed up, and she wondered if he had even come by. She made her way to the kitchen and jumped in surprise when she saw Jason standing there in just his jeans, his hair still damp from the shower he obviously took earlier. ‘’Good morning,’’ she said softly not to startle him, and he turned around with a smile.

‘’Morning, did you sleep ok?’’ he asked, and she nodded with a smile. ‘’The flowers are in the living room, Danny knocked but I made sure you didn’t wake up,’’ he told her, and she nodded.

‘’I was wondering where he was,’’ she replied, ‘’and I was wondering where you were too, but I found you,’’ she teased, and he chuckled. ‘’What are you making?’’ she asked, and he turned back around.

‘’Breakfast,’’ he simply said, and she nodded and sank down on the kitchen chair. ‘’Yeah, listen you sit and here,’’ he said softly, putting the food on a plate, ‘’you,’’ he added as he put the plate in front of her, ‘’go,’’ he finished, and he smiled at her. He made scrambled eggs, and made sure there was bacon.

‘’Oh god, thank you so much. I haven’t had this in – forever,’’ she exclaimed. She could cook, she could make an egg and some dishes – if it wasn’t too difficult – but she never wanted to.

‘’You go to Kelly’s, Mike makes a mean egg,’’ he told her, and she nodded. She knew all too well. ‘’Oh, Danny told me to tell you he would see you tomorrow, and asked me if I wanted to make sure he sees you because he wanted to give you something,’’ Jason added, and she frowned.

‘’Ok, I’ll make sure I’m awake,’’ she told him, and then she suddenly thought about something else, ‘’I’m going to need to get things ready,’’ she said, and he frowned, so she said, ‘’I need to get clothes and stuff for the baby ready – I need to get ready for labor,’’ she smiled at him, and he widened his eyes.

‘’Oh, well I’ll help you pack some things, and if you want I’ll stay here so you don’t have to be alone,’’ he said, and she nodded.

‘’Are you – I mean you live here too, right, and you only left because we had a fight…’’

‘’I left because of that, but I didn’t know if you wanted me back,’’ he replied, and she nodded.

‘’Well, I do, because she,’’ she said rubbing her stomach, ‘’is calmer with you,’’ she added, and he smiled. ‘’I mean normally Lila is waking me up all the time because she’s kicking me or something, and I didn’t wake up that much at all last night,’’ she told him, and he nodded.

‘’I talked to her a little, telling her about Italy, and I think she liked it,’’ he said softly, and he sat down next to her and held his hands to her stomach, ‘’right Lila? We had fun last night didn’t we?’’ she felt Lila kick, responding to his voice, and he looked up with a grin on his face.

‘’She really loves your voice, she doesn’t do that with anyone else,’’ she told him, and he smiled at her.

‘’Well, I could say I love her voice too, but I never heard it,’’ he told her, and then he grinned, ‘’but I love her kick,’’ he added, and she laughed softly. Suddenly she felt her stomach harden and moaned, not liking the feeling. He stared up at her with wide eyes, his hands still on her stomach. ‘’Is it a contraction or – or is it Braxton Hicks?’’ he asked, and she shook her head meaning she couldn’t talk for a moment. He waited patiently, holding her hand and looking at her.

‘’Ok it’s over. It’s Braxton Hicks, I’ve been feeling it more lately, but I have an appointment tomorrow so I’ll ask Dr. Lee about it,’’ she told him, and he nodded.

‘’Do you want me to come with you?’’ he asked, and she nodded.

‘’I’d love that. You missed the last one and I know – you know what? Never mind, come with me to this appointment and it’s all ok,’’ she told him, and he smiled.

‘’I love you,’’ he said, and she smiled.

‘’I love you too,’’ she told him, and then she got up. ‘’I’m going to get a shower and get dressed.’’ He nodded and watched her as she made her way to the bathroom.

Jason knew she was tired, and after the day they had he was tired too. They had been talking some more about them, and they had been shopping for stuff she still needed. She had thought she had everything, but when she printed out a list of what she needed to bring to the hospital, she found she didn’t even have half of the list, and she dragged him with her to the mall. After that they went to Kelly’s for dinner and he had loved spending the day with her, but with all the shopping even he was tired. Sam had already gone to bed, but Jason wanted to stay up for a little while. There was a knock on the door and he got up to open it, surprised when he saw Carly and Emily standing in front of him.

‘’How did it go?’’ they asked simultaneously, and he smiled.

‘’It was perfect, and we decided I’d move in again so I can be here when something happens or when she goes into labor. She’s sleeping because we had a busy day,’’ he told them, and then he stepped aside to let them in.

‘’What did you do today?’’ Emily asked, and Jason shrugged as they made their way to the kitchen. That way Sam wouldn’t wake up hearing them.

‘’We went shopping – Sam printed out a list of what she needed for the hospital and she didn’t even have half of the stuff on there so she wanted to go to the mall to get them, but she ended up buying some more clothes for the baby,’’ he told her, and she laughed.

‘’I remember when Elizabeth was pregnant she was the same. She didn’t stop at what she needed but went on and on,’’ she said, and Carly laughed.

‘’Well, it was supposed to be a slow day for you, but even after the day you had you look so happy,’’ she said, and Jason nodded. He was happy, even though he was exhausted, and he couldn’t love Sam more even if he wanted to. ‘’I think we should go, Em, look at him. He just wants to crawl in bed with Sam,’’ Carly said with a wink, and Jason wanted to protest but Emily stopped him.

‘’Yeah, he looks like he’s ready to collapse,’’ she said, and Jason rolled his eyes and chuckled at his sister. He gave her a hug and then moved to Carly.

‘’Thank you both for helping me get this done, because you really did help a lot. And because of it Sam and I are trying again, and – well, I can’t thank you enough,’’ he rambled, and Carly laughed softly.

‘’Well, I had the best day of my life yesterday – taking Sam to the spa wasn’t that hard of a job,’’ she said with a wink, and Jason grinned. ‘’Well, I’m going to go because I’m going out with Sonny,’’ Carly added, and Emily rolled her eyes.

‘’Yep, I’m coming with you – I mean not – well you know what I mean,’’ she said, and Carly nodded and kissed Jason on his cheek. Emily did the same and they made their way to the car as Jason followed them to the door. He waved at them until they were out of sight, and then walked back inside and locked the door behind him. He made his way over to the bedroom and undressed, and then he stepped in the bed behind Sam. He pulled her close, and she murmured something and fell back asleep, and it didn’t take him long to fall asleep either.

Chapter 10

 3 weeks later

When she felt her stomach contract, she knew what was going on right away. She lay still, knowing it would go over sooner when she did, and it worked. Not more than a minute later she felt her stomach soften again and she breathed out a sigh of relief. She didn’t move yet, but she knew Jason wasn’t in the bed with her anymore so she knew she had to get out soon. She didn’t want to move, though, and in all fairness she didn’t have to. She just wanted to see Jason.

She got out of bed when she had to pee, and sighed when she wobbled her way over to the bathroom. When she had done what she had to do she made her way to the shower and turned it on, intending on relaxing a little. ‘’Sam, where are you?’’ she heard Jason ask from the bedroom, and she chuckled.

‘’I’m in the bathroom, Jason, I want to take a shower and get ready for the day,’’ she told him, and he came in the bathroom and smiled at her. He wrapped his arms around her from behind and kissed her cheek, and she smiled up at him. ‘’You know, I’d love to stay here like this, but I want to start the day and you – you know you can make me breakfast,’’ she told him as she looked at him, and he nodded.

‘’I’ll make you some breakfast and then we’re going to see Patrick and Robin. They called this morning to ask if we wanted to spend the day with them and I told them I would think about it, because you were still sleeping, but I know you want to see your sister,’’ he told her, and she nodded. She looked forward to see Robin, because she hadn’t seen much of her the past three weeks. Robin had been working a lot and Patrick also, so they could spend more time with Emma later. Sam smiled thinking about spending time with her daughter and Jason, and she couldn’t wait for Lila to make her appearance in the world.

‘’I’d love that. So I’m going to take a shower, and we eat breakfast, and then we go and see Robin and Pat,’’ she said with a big smile, and he nodded. He kissed her again and then left the bathroom, leaving her to take a shower.

@@@@@@

Jason stood in the kitchen waiting for Sam to be done with the shower so he could start breakfast. He could hear the shower running from the living room, and he stood just outside the kitchen door leaning against the doorframe. He smiled thinking about her face when he told her they would go over and spend the day with Robin and Patrick. He knew she had missed her sister and brother in law, and he couldn’t blame her. Emma had been over so they could babysit them a lot lately, because Robin and Patrick had to work a lot. Robin figured once the baby was born she couldn’t work much, and even though she didn’t like that she had to work a lot, she had decided she would stop working earlier on in her pregnancy so she could spend some more time with Emma alone before the baby came. He couldn’t blame her – he had been thinking to stop working for a while so he could be there for Sam when the baby came, because he knew it was going to be hard to take care of a little girl alone. So he was still deciding on it, but seeing Sam wobbling like she did, he was seriously contemplating on just taking some time off.

The shower went off and Jason started, walking to the kitchen to make breakfast for her. She had been nauseas again in the morning for the last week he remembered, and he didn’t want her to have to cancel Robin because of it, so he made something he knew she could stomach.  ‘’Wow, did you know I’ve been hurrying up and you’re still not done?’’ she said from the kitchen door, and he turned around and smiled at her.

‘’I waited until you were done in the shower because I know you don’t like your food cold, so no I’m not done yet,’’ he said with a wink. ‘’But you go ahead and sit down because I’m almost done,’’ he said, and she nodded. He turned back around when he heard her grunt as she sat down, and he looked at her. ‘’Are you ok?’’ he asked when he saw the look on her face. She looked like she was in pain, but she could hide that really good so he didn’t know for sure.

‘’Yeah, I’m fine,’’ she replied after a while, and he frowned. ‘’No, really Jason, I’m fine,’’ she told him when she saw him frowning, and he nodded. He didn’t really believe her, but he knew she didn’t want to tell him because he would say they would stay home.

‘’Ok, here you go,’’ he said as he put the plate in front of her, and she smiled up at him while sat down. ‘’You eat, I’ve already eaten,’’ he told her, and she nodded and dug in. She didn’t say anything for a while and he smiled at her as she ate.

‘’You know, the last couple of weeks we’ve been having this routine. You make breakfast for me almost every morning and you spend a lot of time with me. When you can’t,’’ she started when she was done eating, ‘’you send me flowers and you call me if you have to work late. We’re really starting to learn how it is meant to be as a couple and I have to tell you something,’’ she whispered, and he nodded.

‘’You can tell me everything, Sam,’’ he said, and she nodded.

‘’But I want you to promise me, you won’t stop me from spending the day with Robin even if you wanted to, ok?’’ she said, and he nodded.

‘’I promise,’’ he said, even though he didn’t like the sound of it.

‘’Well, this morning when I woke up I felt a contraction – nothing bad, just the beginning of labor that’s all,’’ she told him, looking down, and he widened his eyes. He promised her he wouldn’t stop her from spending the day with Robin, and he intended on keeping the promise, but he had to do something.

‘’Ok, let me just call Dr. Lee and ask her what to do and expect,’’ he said and eh jumped up. He could see her looking at him in confusion and he smiled. ‘’She told me to call her when you started having real contractions and because you just told me you had – and you had another one when you sat down right?’’ he asked, and when she nodded he grinned. ‘’I’m excited, but I have to act right now, and with Dr. Lee’s consent we can spend time with Robin and Patrick,’’ he told her, and she smiled at him.

‘’Thank you for not freaking out – I’ve been reading up on it a lot and what I know is when it starts, it doesn’t have to be right away, you know? I can just go about my day until it get’s worse or until my water breaks,’’ she told him, and he nodded.

‘’I know, that’s why I’m calling Dr. Lee so she knows it’s starting, and she can tell us what to do and what not to do,’’ he told her, and he walked to the living room and grabbed the phone. He walked back while dialing and waiting for someone to pick up, and when someone did he asked for Dr. Lee. ‘’Yeah, Dr. Lee, this is Jason. Sam woke up this morning with contractions but it isn’t like her water broke or something,’’ he said, and he smiled.

‘’Well, what you need to make sure of is you’re ready. Have a bag ready and take it with you – because I know that’s why you called, Patrick told me this morning when he came to bring something – and make sure you count the time in between. You are lucky you have Patrick there,’’ she said and Jason nodded.

‘’We are, and Patrick will help us with this and I know his wife will too, but I just wanted to make sure it’s ok for Sam to just go about her day and when her water breaks,’’ he said, looking at Sam, ‘’we just have to call you back?’’ he asked.

‘’Yes, that’s what I would like for you to do, because that way, we can be ready for Sam when she comes. When her water breaks it isn’t necessary to com right away, but you can do that and maybe you’d feel better doing that,’’ Dr. Lee said, and Jason nodded.

‘’Thank you Dr. Lee, this really eases my mind,’’ he told her, and then he added, ‘’we’ll be in contact,’’ and disconnected the line. ‘’Are you ready to go?’’ he asked Sam, who nodded and held out her hand so he could help her. He did, and they made their way to the car after getting in their coats and grabbing what they needed.

@@@@@@

When they arrived at Robin’s, Sam hurried to get in, and she smiled at Jason who was grinning at her. She couldn’t run, but she wobbled as fast as she could and when she arrived at the door, Robin was there and pulled her in her arms. ‘’I’ve missed you, little sis,’’ she whispered in her ear, and Sam blinked.

‘’I missed you too,’’ she whispered, and she felt the tears build up. ‘’I’ve been wanting to call you but every time I planned on doing it someone told me not to – and then he told me this morning we were going to spend the day with you,’’ she said, and Robin smiled.

‘’I’ve been working a lot and I didn’t have much time though. I love that we get to spend the day together now – and I know Patrick wanted this too,’’ she said, and took Sam’s hand and took her inside with her. ‘’So Emma’s been talking about you,’’ Robin said, ‘’telling me you’ve been feeling sick,’’ she added, and Sam widened her eyes.

‘’Emma didn’t say that Robin, and yeah I’ve been feeling sick but I feel fine now, so don’t worry,’’ she said, just as another contraction hit. ‘’You see,’’ she said after a while, ‘’I’ve been having contractions but they aren’t close together yet, and Jason just called Dr. Lee and she told me it would be fine, I can do this,’’ she added, and Robin frowned.

‘’You are having contractions – Sam why didn’t you just tell me?’’ she asked, and Sam laughed.

‘’I just did! I told you because you know what is going on with me and I don’t want you to think something is wrong. My water didn’t break yet and when that happens I’ll have to go to the hospital, right Jason?’’ she asked, and Jason nodded.

‘’Yeah, I spoke to Dr. Lee myself and she told me it was ok to spend the day with you – she said Patrick can help when it starts and we just had to bring the bag she needs to bring to the hospital, so don’t worry, Robin, it’s going to be fine,’’ Jason said, and Robin sighed and nodded, but Sam could see she didn’t like it.

‘’Do you want us to leave? I mean I wouldn’t want to force-‘’ she started, but Robin interrupted her.

‘’No, I want to spend time with you but I just remember I didn’t feel anything with Emma until my water broke and I was just wondering – you know I didn’t know you would have – you know, never mind, come on we’re going to sit down and catch up,’’ Robin said, stumbling over her words. She took Sam with her to the couch and as they sat down, Sam smiled and felt good seeing her sister again.

@@@@@@

Jason looked at Sam as she grabbed her stomach every once in a while, and he could see she was having a contraction right now. ‘’Sam, are you ok?’’ he asked, and she just nodded. She started rubbing her stomach and sighed.

‘’I have to go to the bathroom, so help me up,’’ she said, and Jason got up and helped her, and just as she stood he could see her eyes widen and she looked down. ‘’Damn it,’’ she said with tears in her eyes, and Robin laughed.

‘’Ok, so you take her to the hospital now, Jason,’’ she said, and Sam looked up. He could see the confusion over her face and then the realization what Robin was saying.

‘’My water just broke?’’ she asked, and Patrick got up and walked over to Sam, who was standing in a puddle of water, and he nodded.

‘’Yep, that’s it. Now Jason take her to the car, and I’ll come with Robin. Right now it’s going to happen,’’ he told them, and just then Sam got another contraction and she grunted. ‘’Yeah, they’re going to get more painful after your water breaks,’’ he told Sam, and she nodded and closed her eyes tightly.

‘’Jason, take me to the hospital,’’ she whispered hoarsely as the contraction faded. ‘’Call Dr. Lee,’’ she added, and Jason nodded. He helped her get to the car and called Dr. Lee in the meantime.

‘’Ok, Sam and I are on our way right now Dr. Lee, her water just broke,’’ he said, and then he disconnected the line when Dr. Lee told them to just come over. He felt panic rise, but he tried to hide it for Sam, because he didn’t want her to panic because of him.

‘’Jason, it’s ok, you don’t have to panic,’’ she said, and he laughed. She could read him like a book even though he tried to hide some things, and he loved that about her. ‘’I am just fine right now and if I wasn’t, you don’t have to panic because we know what’s going to happen,’’ she told him, and he nodded and started the car. They made their way to the hospital without any problems, and Sam got out of the car with Jason’s help.

‘’I’m nervous,’’ he said, ‘’but I can’t wait for Lila to be born so we can hold her and see her and touch her,’’ he added, and she smiled up at him.

‘’I feel the same way,’’ she told him, ‘’I love you,’’ she added, and he smiled at her.

‘’I love you too.’’

@@@@@@

Sam felt another contraction hit the moment they stepped off the elevator, but she didn’t stop. She followed Jason, holding her stomach and his hand to make sure she didn’t stay behind, and he looked at her when she squeezed his hand tightly.

‘’You want to stop for a second?’’ he asked her, and she shook her head.

‘’No, I’ll walk it off,’’ she said through gritted teeth, and he nodded. He told the nurse they were here and Sam was in labor, and the nurse led them to a hospital room. ‘’Thank you,’’ Sam said, and the nurse nodded and told them what they needed to do.

‘’You need to get dressed in this,’’ she said holding up a hospital gown, ‘’and I’ll send Dr. Lee you’re way,’’ she added, and then she walked out of the room. Sam changed into the hospital gown and just as she was about to sit on the bed Robin and Patrick walked in.

‘’I’m so excited,’’ Robin exclaimed, and Sam laughed softly. ‘’Are you ok? Do you need anything?’’ she asked, and Sam shook her head.

‘’I’m good. I just need for Dr. Lee to come and…’’ she started just as Dr. Lee walked in.

‘’So, it’s started for you! I’m just going to check everything here and we’ll see how it goes,’’ she said with a smile, and Patrick and Robin left the room as Jason went to stand beside her. She lay down and scooted down so Dr. Lee could see what she needed to know, and then Dr. Lee sat down and did what she needed to do. ‘’Everything looks good; you’re just a centimeter dilated so it’s going to be a while. I’ll come back every 30 minutes and check on you, and when you need anything just call, ok?’’ Dr. Lee said when she was done.

‘’Thank you Dr. Lee,’’ Sam said, and Dr. Lee nodded. She made her way out the room and Sam smiled at Jason. ‘’It’s really happening Jason,’’ she whispered, and Jason nodded and sat down next to her on the bed.

‘’It really is happening and I can’t wait. I love you Sam and I want to thank you for giving me this,’’ he whispered, and he kissed her gently. ‘’We’re going to have her here tomorrow at last,’’ he added, and she smiled.

‘’I love you too, and thank you for giving me our daughter,’’ she said, just as another contraction hit her. They were coming faster and they lasted longer every time, and they also felt more painful every time.

@@@

She’d been having contractions for hours, and she wanted it to be over with. She wanted to hold her baby and she wanted the pain to stop. ‘’Jason, I don’t – god, it hurts,’’ she grunted as another contraction hit, and he walked over to her and pushed her gently so she was bended over the bed, and started rubbing his knuckles against her back. He lifted the pain a little, but it didn’t help that much. ‘’Thank you,’’ she started when she felt the pain subside, and he nodded.

‘’I just wish I could take it all away,’’ he said softly, and she shrugged.

‘’You know, right now I can live without it but just remember when this is all over, we’ll have Lila to hold and love,’’ she told him, and he nodded. ‘’Jason can you-‘’ she started, and she looked at the door when Dr. Lee walked in.

‘’How are we doing?’’ she asked, and Sam nodded. She stepped in bed and lay down, ‘’Let’s see,’’ Dr. Lee said, and she looked at Sam with a smile.

‘’I just – I just had another contraction,’’ Sam said softly, and Dr. Lee nodded.

‘’You’re almost there, Sam. You’re almost 10 centimeters now, so I’ll just get ready for you,’’ Dr. Lee said, and Sam nodded. Just then another contraction hit and Sam grunted. ‘’Breath through it, Sam, and I’ll be right there,’’ Dr. Lee said and she left the room. Jason held on to Sam’s hand and widened his eyes when she grabbed him and squeezed hard.

‘’Jason – Jason god, this hurts so bad!’’ she screamed through the pain, and he nodded. Sam looked up at him and laughed through her tears and pain when she saw the look on his face. She knew this was going to be hard and long for the both of them.

@@@@@@

Jason stared at Dr. Lee as she walked in and was glad Sam finally stopped hurting him. ‘’So next contraction you push,’’ Dr. Lee said, and Sam nodded. She had just made ready for the baby to arrive, lying on the bed in the birthing suite and Dr. Lee and two nurses were there to make sure the baby got out right and was cleaned. Jason held on to Sam’s hands as he sat behind her, her back against his chest. According to Dr. Lee, she could push harder with him behind her and he didn’t mind. This way he was closer to Sam and he could help her whenever he needed, whenever she needed his help.

‘’Ouch,’’ Sam grunted, and Dr. Lee started counting. Jason counted with her as Sam pushed, and he could feel her shake from the strength behind it.

‘’You’re doing great baby, really!’’ he coached her, and she grunted in response. When the contraction subsided she relaxed against him, and Dr. Lee looked up with a smile.

‘’You’re really doing great, Sam, a couple more of these and you’ll have her in your arms!’’ she told Sam, just as another contraction came up. Sam pushed, and grunted and almost squeezed Jason’s hands off, but he knew it was worth it and he knew she was in more pain than he could ever imagine. ‘’Ok, let’s see, just two more and she’s out, sweetie,’’ Dr. Lee said, and Sam nodded.

‘’I just want to get it over with!’’ Sam said, and she grunted.

‘’Ok, big push, you’re doing great Sam,’’ Dr. Lee said, and Sam started pushing again. Dr. Lee smiled brightly and Jason couldn’t see what she saw, but he knew it was almost over. ‘’One more time Sam and you’ll be able to hold and see Lila,’’ Dr. Lee said, and Sam nodded and pushed again once she had another contraction.

‘’Jason I’m never getting pregnant again!’’ she screamed, just as they heard a baby cry.

‘’She’s quiet the looker – dad, do you want to cut the cord?’’ Dr. Lee asked Jason, who nodded and kissed Sam before getting up to do it. He looked at his daughter and smiled brightly while cutting through the cord. The nurse took the baby to clean it, and Sam lay back on the bed with a deep sigh.

‘’Do you want to hold her?’’ the nurse asked, and Sam nodded her head. Jason could see she was tired, but she was dying to hold her daughter.

‘’Oh my god, Jason look at that,’’ Sam said as the nurse handed her daughter to her. Sam held her daughter close and Jason leaned over them and kissed Sam, and then he gently pressed a kiss on Lila’s head. ‘’She’s perfect,’’ she whispered, and Jason could see the tears in her eyes.

‘’She is. We did good, Sam,’’ he whispered, and she looked up again with a smile.

‘’I hate to do this, but we still have something to do, so why don’t you bring Lila to the family, dad, so Sam can finish this,’’ Dr. Lee said, and Jason nodded. He gently took Lila out of Sam’s arms and kissed Sam again, and then he walked out of the room to the waiting area where Patrick and Robin were waiting. When he came there he smiled brightly seeing his friends there too, and he cleared his throat.

‘’I’d like for everyone to meet our daughter, Lila Rose Morgan,’’ he said proudly, and everyone looked up and began talking through each other. ‘’She’s fine, Sam’s fine, I’m fine, and everyone will be able to see Sam when she’s ready,’’ he added, and he grinned. Finally, he was a dad.

Sam closed her eyes and smiled when she heard Jason come in, and she sighed. She was glad she was done giving birth, and she was glad Jason had been there for her. ‘’Jason?’’ she called out, and she felt him take her hand. She opened her eyes and smiled at him as he sat on the bed. ‘’I love you, and thank you for being here to support me,’’ she whispered, and he smiled.

‘’I wouldn’t have missed it for the world, Sam, and I love you too,’’ he said, and then a nurse walked in with Lila.

‘’This little girl wanted to be with her parents,’’ the nurse said with a smile, and Sam nodded her thanks as the nurse gently put Lila in her arms. ‘’Maybe you want to try feeding her, if you need any help you can just call,’’ she said, and she walked out of the room. Sam began sitting up with Jason’s help, and fed her little girl.

‘’Ouch – wow, this is not really comfortable,’’ Sam said laughing softly, and Jason smiled at her while watching his daughter drink from Sam.

‘’God she’s perfect,’’ he heard, and he saw Robin stand in the door opening. Patrick stood behind her looking in another direction, and Sam smiled.

‘’She is, and she’s complete,’’ she whispered, and she looked down at her little girl. Her dark curly hair and her blue eyes – she hoped she kept them, but you never know. ‘’She is absolutely perfect and I’m glad I met Jason that night,’’ Sam added, and Jason smiled.

‘’And I’m glad I met you that night. I love you so much,’’ he whispered, and he kissed her again.

‘’I love you too, Jason, so much,’’ she told him and she smiled. Finally she felt like she was complete, having Jason with her and Lila. She couldn’t be any happier.

The end!
